PORTRAIT OF AN ADORABLE YOUNG AFRICAN-AMERICAN CHILD

blackchild_0002This Cabinet card is a image of an adorable young African-American child. The child has a very expressive face and is nicely dressed as she poses at the photographers studio. The name of the studio is too difficult to decipher and the location of the studio is not noted.

I think this photographer was Ed W Mims.

We welcome you to the vast unpaid cabinet card gallery research department. The research contributions of the gallery’s visitors are sincerely appreciated. I believe you are correct. Thanks to your lead, I was able to learn that Edward W. Mims was a photographer in Tyler, Texas. He was born in Louisiana in 1873. The Professional and Amateur Photographer (1900) reports that he was nominated for the office of 2nd Vice President of the Photographers Association of Texas. The 1910 US census indicates that he was a photographer in Texas and he and his wife Alta had five children. He is listed in the Tyler, Texas city directory (1913) as a photographer. The 1930 and 1940 US census found Mims living in Denver, Colorado. The former census listed him as a photographer but by the latter census, he had retired. Thanks again for your assistance.
