This vintage postcard features the Van Ness Hotel, which was located in Burlington, Vermont. Also pictured are three horse drawn coaches and several pedestrians. The Van Ness opened in 1870.The brick building was on the site formerly occupied by the Howard House until it was destroyed by fire in 1867.  The Van Ness Hotel had a capacity of 400 guests. WEDDING COUPLE PORTRAIT : HALSTAD, MINNESOTA : O. E. FLATEN : CABINET CARD

This photographic portrait captures a lovely formally dressed couple. It is likely that this is a wedding photo. Both the man and the woman are dressed in formal clothing. In addition, the gentleman is wearing a  boutonniere while the woman is wearing a corsage. Looks like wedding attire to me. The photographer is O. E. Flaten who at the time of the photograph, had studios in Moorehead and Halstad, Minnesota; as well as in Gardner, North Dakota. Research reveals that Ole E. Flaten (1854 or 1865- 1933) was born in Vanders, Norway and emigrated to the United States. He worked as a photographer from the 1870’s through the 1920’s, retiring in 1930. This cabinet card portrait has minor edge and cornerwear and is in very good condition (see scans).

A YOUNG BOY AND GIRL ATOP A DONKEY (1910-1930) RPPC

This vintage real photo postcard features a young boy and girl riding a donkey. Pardon my lack of equine knowledge; perhaps the donkey is actually a mule or burro. Both children are smiling and apparently having a good time. It is likely that the pair are siblings. The sister is riding side-saddle. I believe the donkey is actually a late donkey. It was not unusual to have subjects pose with a taxidermied animal for their studio photograph. The AZO stamp box on the reverse of this postcard indicates that it was published between 1910 and 1930. This vintage postcard has a crease in it’s lower right hand quadrant. It is in fair condition and priced accordingly. See Scans
