PRETTY ACTRESS TILLY WOLDEGG : PHOTO BY EMILIE BIEBER : RPPC

This vintage real photo postcard features a photo of pretty actress Tilly Waldegg. IMDb credits her with appearing in one film (1912). Further research is needed to illuminate her stage history. This photograph of Miss Waldegg was taken at the sudio of celebrated female photographer, Emilie Bieber (Berlin and Hamburg). She was a very successful and talented photographer during a time when female photographers were uncommon. The card was published by Louis Blumenthal (Berlin). Note that this card has edgewear and a crease in it’s top left corner. Overall, this vintage real photo portrait postcard has excellent clarity and is in good condition (see scans).

A KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR (CABINET CARD)

This cabinet card features a knight in shining armor. You can be sure that he did not ride up to the studio on his trusty steed. I wish I could report that this photograph’s subject was Sir Galahad, Richard the Lionhearted, or even one of the Three Musketeers. Unfortunately, the timing is a “little off”. Instead, the knight seen in this photograph is probably an actor. His armor is quite impressive. Note his gloves (gauntlets) and the hilt of his sword. His helmet is also interesting. He is wearing the helmet with the visor in the up position. This is a beautiful photograph and that is not surprising because it was taken by Emilie Bieber’s photo studio. Emilie Bieber (1810-1884) had two studios in Germany: Berlin and Hamburg. She operated the Hamburg studio 1852 through 1872, when she was joined by her nephew, Leonard Berlin-Bieber. Emilie Bieber died in 1884. This photograph was taken in 1906, after Emilie Bieber had died. The 1906 date of the photo is apparent by the fact that “1906” is embossed on the lower right hand corner of the image. That same date is stamped on the reverse of the cabinet card. This photograph is mounted on very thick cardstock. There is a “fault line” on the reverse of the image. It is barely visible in the scan. Due to the fact that the cardstock is thick, the “fault line” is only a cosmetic issue. The photo is in good condition (see scans).

TWO PORTRAITS OF GERMAN ACTRESS VILMA VON MAYBURG (ONE PHOTO BY E. BIEBER)

A costumed Vilma Von Mayburg poses for her portrait in the top vintage real photo postcard. The beautiful German stage and silent film actress is known for “Die Erbin des Grafen von Monte Christo (1919)”, Der siebente kub (1918)”, and  “Menschen in Ketten (1919)”. Her film career began in 1916.  This postcard was published by “EPA” which is the Albert Phototype Establishment. The company was located in Algers, Algeria.              The second photo postcard shows a standing Miss Mayburg. She is quite pretty and well dressed. She is adorned with flowers and holding a fan. After I purchased this photograph, I had a nice surprise. I realized that the photograph was taken by one of my favorite photographers, Emilie Bieber. She was quite successful and quite talented. Bieber had two studios in Germany; Berlin and Hamburg. The Hamburg studio operated from 1852 through 1872 when she was joined by her nephew, Leonard Berlin-Bieber, Emilie Bieber died in 1884. .

A GENTLEMAN WITH “MUTTON CHOPS” IN HAMBURG, GERMANY (PHOTO BY EMILIE BIEBER)

This carte de visite photograph is by celebrated photographer Emilie Bieber. She was a very successful and talented female photographer. Female photographers were uncommon in the cdv era. Bieber is definitely one of my favorite photographers. You may view additional photographs by Miss Bieber by typing her name in the cabinet card gallery’s search box. Bieber had two locations in Germany; Berlin and Hamburg. She ran her Hamburg studio from 1852 through 1872 when she was joined by her nephew, Leonard Berlin-Bieber. Emilie Bieber died in 1884. This cdv portrait features a well dressed gentleman with wonderful mutton chops. He is not wearing an accompanying mustache. Printing on the reverse of the carte de visite brags about the medals won by this studio. Awards were earned from exhibitions in Berlin (1865), Hamburg (1868), Paris (1870), Vienna (1873), as well as other photography competitions. This record of photographic honors informs us that this cdv was produced in 1873 or shortly afterward.

EXQUISITE PORTRAIT OF A GERMAN COUPLE BY EMILIE BIEBER (CARTES DE VISITE 1870’s)

Emilie Bieber is one of my favorite photographers of the Cartes de Visite/Cabinet Card era. The quality of her work soars above her contemporary photographers. This CDV captures a lovely immaculately dressed couple posing in Bieber’s Hamburg studio. The woman’s hair is beautifully done. She is wearing a cross on a chain. The gentleman is wearing formal clothes and also is wearing a ring and pocket watch. Bieber had a second photo studio which was located in Berlin. Emilie Bieber ran her Hamburg studio for 1852 through 1872 when she was joied by her nephew, Leonard Berlin-Bieber. She died in 1884. This cdv likely dates back to the 1870’s. The reverse of the photograph lists prizes garnered by Bieber at various photo exhibitions including Berlin (1865), Paris (1870), London (1872), and Vienna (1873).   SOLD

BEAUTIFUL GERMAN WOMAN WEARING LACE MANTILLA

This exceptionally clear cabinet card features an extremely beautiful woman wearing a lace mantilla. What’s a mantilla? According to Wikepedia, a mantilla is a lace or silk veil or shawl worn over the head and shoulder. Mantillas became popular in Spain toward the end of the sixteenth century. The photographer is Emilie Bieber and she had studios in Berlin and Hamburg, Germany.  Could E. Bieber, be related to Canadian singer and songwriter, Justin Bieber? Afterall, Justin Bieber’s great grandfather was from Germany. Forget it! Lets not go there! Lets get back to the cabinet card. Emilie Bieber was a female German photographer who was later joined in business by her nephew Leonard Berlin-Bieber. BEAUTIFUL AND FLAMBOYANT GERMAN WOMAN: BOUDOIR CARD PHOTOGRAPH

A very pretty and flamboyantly dressed woman poses for her photograph at the studio of E. Bieber. Bieber had two locations in Germany; Berlin and Hamburg. Emilie Bieber was a female German photographer who ran her Hamburg studio from 1852 through 1872 when she was joined by her nephew, Leonard Berlin-Bieber. Emilie Bieber died in 1884.  The beautiful woman in this image is dressed to the hilt. Her dress and hat are covered with flowers and feathers. Perhaps she is an actress which judging by her expression, pose, and dress; is a likely possibility.  This photograph is not  a standard sized cabinet card but instead is known as a Boudoir Card.
