These vintage press photographs feature Senorita Stella de Carcano y Morra, the eldest daughter of Dr. Miguel Angel Carcano and Senora Stella de Morra de Carcano. Dr Carcano was the Argentinian Ambassador to Great Britain. Stella was quite pretty. Stella’s younger sister, Ana Inez “Chiquita” Carcano y Morra, married John Jacob Astor VII, just months before this photo was taken. This photo was taken in 1945. In 1946, Stella married William Ward, 4th Earl of Dudley. They were divorced in 1961.This photograph was taken by esteemed photographer Yvonne Gregory (1889-1970) who was based in London. This uncommon vintage real photo postcard features actress Mona Maris (1903-1991). The postcard was published by Ross Verlag (No.3887/1). The photograph is from the Hanni Schwarz studio. Schwarz was a German female photographer and her work was praised in “American Photography” (1909). She was a well known professional photographer in Germany during the early 1900’s. She is thought to have worked until the 1930’s. The subject of this photo, Mona Maris was born in Argentina. Her mother was Spanish Basque and her father was French Catalan. At the early age of four, Mona was orphaned. She grew up with her grandmother in France where she was educated in a convent as well as in Germany and England. At age 19, she spoke four languages. It was during World War I that Mona decided to be an actress. While she was in school in France, she and her classmates wrote, directed and acted in plays to entertain nearby troops. Upon graduation, she went to England to live, where she stayed two and a half years. She was introduced to the President of the United Film Association by the Argentinian ambassador to Germany. She was signed to a five year contract by Germany’s Universum Film AG productions. She began her film career in either 1924 or 1925. After just four films in Germany, she began a Hollywood career in United Artists “The Apache” (1925). Despite knowing multiple languages, the onset of sound films created a problem. Her English was described as “almost unintelligible”. Between 1931 and 1941, she starred in 19 Spanish language versions of successful American films. The movies were produced by Fox Films. She has been described as “sultry” and “sleepy eyed”. The IMDb credits her with 53 film roles between 1925 and 1984. Mona was married twice and had no children. She died and was buried in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This vintage postcard features Mona Maris posing with an adorable smoll dog. Maris is very pretty. Note her eyes. Interestingly, upon close examination, the book is actually a photographic journal called “Studio Light : Magazine of Information for the Photographer”. The photographer of this postcard portrait is Florencio Bixio. He was a talented photographer who operated photo studios in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was active between at least 1900 and 1930. He died in Buenos Aires in 1933. Bixio specialized in studio portraits, wedding portraits, and photos of entertainers. He also was a correspondent for the magazine “Caras and Caretas”, as well as a producer of photo postcards. Between 1900 and 1930 he opened photography studios in partnership with two other photographers. These studios were called “Bixio and Merlino” and Bixio and Castiglioni”. He was of Italian descent and emigrated to Argentina in 1896. He died in Buenos Aires in 1933. (SOLD)

His slicked back hair is neat. Occupationally, this gentleman is likely a professional of some kind. The photographer of this postcard portrait is Florencio Bixio. He was a talented photographer who operated photo studios in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was active between at least 1900 and 1930. He died in Buenos Aires in 1933. A number of his photographs can be found in the Cabinet Card Gallery. This is an uncommon themed postcard. The card has a Kolux stamp box. I believe that Kolux is a type of camera. This vintage real photo postcard makes me smile. The card pictures two happy children posing for their portrait while holding some fun toys. These kids are ready to play. The younger child is holding a hoop toy while the older child has a ball and racquet. This photograph was taken by a photographer that may be familiar to regular Cabinet Card Gallery visitors. The gallery has a number of photos from the studio of Florencio Bixio. This talented photographer operated a studio in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
