PRETTY WOMAN WITH LONG HAIR : FASHION : ELGIN, ILLINOIS

This vintage real photo postcard features an attractive young woman with long hair and a nice smile. She looks to be in her teenage years. She is well dressed and it appears that she is dressed for some kind of an event, possibly a religious ceremony. Note her giant hat that she is holding in her left hand. The embossed stamp on the bottom right of the image, reveals that the young lady’s photograph was taken by West Photo. The studio was located in Elgin, Illinois. The likely proprietor of the gallery was Charles West. He is listed in the Elgin business directory between 1909 and 1916.  The postcard has a Kruxo stamp box that reveals that the postcard dates back to sometime between 1908 and 1920. This postcard is in excellent condition (see scans).

ADORABLE LITTLE BOY : DARK SAILOR STYLE SUIT

An adorable young boy dressed in a dark sailor style suit poses for his photograph at the Bostwick Studio in New York City. The child is displaying a semi smile. Bostwick’s studio was located between 8th and 9th Streets in New York City. Print on the reverse of the cabinet card notes that the studio was established in 1867.and that this photograph was taken in 1893. An inscription on the back of the photo indicates that this poto was given to someone for Xmas. The photographer, James Alba Bostwick was born in 1846 or 1848 in Livonia, New York. At one point in his photography career he was a partner in a firm named Bostwick and Bancker. A collection of Bostwick’s work is owned by the University of New Hampshire’s library. MONTAUK MANOR : MONTAUK : LONG ISLAND : NEW YORK : HORSES : HITCHING POST

This vintage postcard features “Montauk Manor”, a summer resort in Montauk, Long Island, New York. . The village of Montauk is located on the east end of Long Island. It is known for it’s strong Atlantic surf, beaches, and the Montauk Point lighthouse. There is a lot happening on the large front lawn of the manor. Note the four horses, riders, and hitching post. You can also see old cars in the driveway. Carl Fisher wanted to build an incredible summer resort that would be unsurpassed. He was a multi-millionaire industrialist. The resort offered a beach club, yacht club, tennis courts, golf, and polo field. The resort opened it’s doors in 1927. The resort also included a grand 200 room hotel. Montauk Manor sat on10,000 acres. Today, the hotel has transitioned into a 140 condominium community with a private health and sports club. This postcard was published by Silver’s Cigar and Stationary Store (Southhampton NY).  (SOLD)

ELGA BRINK : RARE PORTRAIT : BEAUTIFUL GERMAN SILENT FILM ACTRESS : RPPC

This vintage real photo postcard features beautiful German film actress Elga Brink (1905-1985). At the time that this photograph was taken, she was 23 years-old. This photograph is uncommon. The IMDb reports that Brink appeared in sixty-nine films between 1922 and 1951. Brink was blonde and slender. She began her career in silent films. She often played supporting roles. She appeared in comedies, science fiction, drama, and even in a sex education film. She was recognized for her roles in “Comedians of Life” (1924), “Love in Intoxication? (1927), and “Marriage in Trouble” (1929).  At some point she was married to director Georg Jacoby. After the second World War she mostly did stage work until her retirement from the entertainment world. She then worked as a clerk in a Hamburg law firm. The logo on the bottom right of the image reveals the name of the postcard’s publisher. Unfortunately, I can not decipher the initials. Print on the reverse of the postcard advertises ‘Union Bromographic”. The firm was located in Milan, Italy. Perhaps the company was a postcard distributor. The card was postmarked in Genoa, Italy and mailed to Venice. The card has an Italian stamp. Everything about this postcard is Italian; except Elga Brink. This photo postcard portrait captures the beauty of Elga Brink. She is very expressive in this photograph. She looks pensive. Note the light crease in the lower left hand corner of the card. Overall, this vintage postcard is in good condition (see scans).
