This vintage real photo postcard features a handsome couple out for a ride in the English countryside. The couple are well dressed for their ride in a beautiful open car. The reverse of the postcard indicates that the photo postcard was produced by M & S which is the abbreviation for Misch & Stock of London, England. Printed information on the reverse also states that the photograph may have been from the area of Cliftonville, which is a coastal location in the town of Margate. The postcard stock itself, was produced by Crown Studios sometime between 1913 and 1929.

PORTRAIT OF AN ATTRACTIVE COUPLE IN NEW CASTLE, PENNSYLVANIA

This cabinet card portrait features a young and attractive couple posing for their portrait. The pair are beautifully dressed and one wonders if this may be their wedding photograph. The woman is wearing a dark beaded dress and a necklace and collar pin. The young man is wearing what appears to be a tuxedo. Note his boyish good looks. The photographer of this image is E. E. Seavy of New Castle, Pennsylvania. Edgar E. Seavy (1859-1942) was born in Wisconsin, He moved to New Castle in 1890 and operated his photography studio from 12 North Mercer Street with his partner, A. R. Fowler. The cabinet card gallery has some photographs by Seavy & Fowler which can be found in the category “Photographer: Seavy & Fowler”. After just a few years Seavy bought out Fowler and later opened a new studio at 226 East Washington Street. An image of this studio as well as of Mr Seavvy, can be seen below. Seavy’s studio was quite popular in New Castle and in 1908 produced the first color photographs in the town.

PORTRAIT OF A PRETTY FASHIONISTA WITH A TERRIFIC SMILE

This vintage real photo postcard features a pretty young woman who knows how to dress. She is clearly a fashionista. However, it is unknown whether she is modeling in this photo portrait or is some sort of performer. She has a terrific smile. This postcard appears to be from the 1930’s. The postcard was published by “K Ltd” sometime between 1918 and 1936.

UNHAPPY AND DISCONNECTED COUPLE IN HARRISTON, ONTARIO, CANADA

This scallop edged cabinet card photograph features a young couple who appear to have had happier days. The couple seem so disconnected and discontent. I can’t decide whether the husband or the wife seems the most miserable. The pair are well dressed for their portrait at the studio of Robert L. Hinde in Harriton, Ontario, Canada. Preliminary research only revealed that Hinde may have operated his studio there between 1890 and 1895. The reverse of the cabinet card has an inscription that states that the lovebirds are Mr. and Mrs. John McJannet.  SOLD

PORTRAIT OF A BLIND WOMAN WEARING A FUR COAT (CABINET CARD)

According to the inscription on the reverse of this cabinet card, the subject of this photograph is named Gertrude N. Putnam. The inscriber also mentions that Ms Putnam is a cousin of Lucy S Mckay. This image is novel for a number of reasons. First, note that Gertrude is wearing a pair of dark glasses. Is it safe to assume that she is blind? Second, Gertrude is wearing a fur coat. Remember this is before PETA days so she can wear the coat with little or no guilt. The final unusual feature of this photograph is it’s somewhat unusual sized (6 1/2″ x 2 3/4″). Unfortunately, little can be learned about Gertrude Putnam because the name and location of the photographer who took this photograph is unknown and there is no shortage of Gertrude N. Putnams’ during the cabinet card era.

PORTRAIT OF TWO SMILING WORLD WAR I SOLDIERS (REAL PHOTO POSTCARD 1904-1908)

Two World War I era soldiers flash terrific smiles as they pose for their portrait. It is difficult to decipher the name of the studio from the embossed stamp on the image. The name appears to be the “Nunlike Studio” but I am not too confident that I am correct. The men in this image are dressed in uniform with long coats and military hats. The “Cyko” stamp box on this postcard indicates that it was published between 1904 and 1908. This is a very early example of a Cyko postcard. The company published postcards from 1904 through part of the 1920’s.   SOLD

PORTRAIT OF AN ARMY TAILOR AND HIS SEWING MACHINE IN SERBIA (VINTAGE REAL PHOTO POSTCARD)

This vintage real photo postcard features a terrific portrait of an army tailor sitting at his sewing machine. The soldier is in uniform while he works on a pair of uniform pants. This photograph was taken in 1931, a period between World War I and World War II. The postcard is addressed to someone in Novi Sad, Serbia. Novi Sad is a city in Serbia on the banks of the Danube River. I am guessing that the soldier in this photograph was a member of the Serbian army. During 1931, Serbia was actually part of Yugoslavia.

PRETTY LITTLE GIRL HOLDING A TOY IN BERLIN, GERMANY (1911 CARTE DE VISITE)

This item is a cartes de visite (cdv) featuring a cute long haired little girl sitting on a chair and posing at the Erna studio in Berlin, Germany. She has bows in her hair and is holding a toy in her lap. She is wearing a beautiful lace dress. Take note of the chairs nicely carved arm rests. This cdv is in excellent condition. An embossment on the bottom right of the image indicates that the photograph was taken in 1911.

HERITO: A PORTRAIT OF MLLE HERO (THEATER ACTRESS)

This vintage real photo postcard features French glamour star Herito (Mlle Hero). She was a celebrated actress and dancer of her era. Although she was a popular subject of photo postcards, this particular postcard is not very common. The postcard was published by Rotophot Berlin (RPH). Rotophot made it’s debut in Berlin, Germany around the turn of the century (1900). The company had other European offices including London and Budapest. They published many different postcard topics including stage stars. Many of their early postcards were tinted. Eventually Rotophot morphed into “Ross Verlag” a postcard company that collectors know for the many postcards they produced featuring actors and actresses.

AN ADORABLY DRESSED PRETTY WOMAN AND HER BICYCLE

This cabinet card photograph features an adorably dressed young woman standing beside her bicycle. She looks so pretty in her riding outfit. Note her hat, bow tie, gloves, high boots and patterned dress. This is certainly a terrific image of a bicycle rider and her bike. There is a badge on the front of the bike (under the handlebars) that likely identifies the manufacturer of the bike. I believe that someone knowledgeable about bicycle companies existing during the cabinet card era could determine the name of the company that built this bike. There also seems to be some artwork on the bar underneath the bike’s seat. This photograph was taken by a photographer named Matthews but the location of the studio is unknown.   SOLD
