CARROLL’S LIQUOR STORE : LA CRESCENT, MINNESOTA : ART DECO : LITHO POSTCARD 1942

This vintage lithographic postcard features Carroll’s Liqour store located in La Crescent, Minnesota. The store’s design is Art Deco. At the time of this photo, the proprietor of this business was W. S. Carroll. Printing on the reverse of the postcard reveals that Carroll’s was more than a liquor store. Options available in the store were drinking at the bar, dining, and bowling. The advertising describes Carroll’s as an “entertainment center”. This card was published by Elliott & Heim. Their business was located in Pearl River, New York. The postmark reveals that this card was mailed in the 1940’s.  SOLD

This risque vintage real photo postcard features a pretty young dancer. She is dressed and posed provocatively for this postcard portrait. Her legs are exposed and she is wearing a short and tight fitting costume. This art deco dancer is wearing an Egyptian costume with a sequin headband and a bra with rhinsetone stars. A PRETTY GIRL WEARING AN EMBROIDED CAP : ART DECO : PHOTO BY ALFRED NOYER

This vintage real photo postcard features a pretty girl holding a bouquet of flowers. She is wearing a lovely embroidered cap. The photographer and publisher of this portrait postcard was Alfred Noyer. He was a well known and acclaimed photographer. His Paris studio operated between 1910 and the 1940’s. This art deco postcard has excellent clarity and is in excellent condition (see scans).

PORTRAIT OF A BEAUTIFUL AND LUCKY YOUNG WOMAN

This vintage real photo postcard features a very attractive young woman holding a bouquet of purple flowers and what appears to be a horseshoe. The woman is beautifully dressed in an orange winter coat with a fur collar and fur sleeve cuffs. She has a wonderful smile. The postcard is from the French art deco period. It was likely published in the 1910’s. The postcard was published by Gloria and was part of a series (no. 4010). The horseshoe seen in this photograph is an enigma. First of all, is it a horseshoe? It is way too large to be anything but a piece of art, rather than a real horseshoe. Horseshoes have long been associated as being “lucky”. They were originally made of iron, a metal that was believed to ward off evil spirits. They were originally held in place with seven nails. Seven was considered a lucky number. Superstitious sailors believed a horseshoe nailed to a mast would keep storms away from their ship. This postcard is in excellent condition (see scans).
