THREE WOMEN ON MULES: BALANCED ROCK : GARDEN OF THE GODS : MANITOU, COLORADO

This vintage real photo postcard features three women on riding burros,  posing in front of Balanced Rock. The natural wonder is located within The Garden of the Gods. The photographer of this image is the Paul Goerke and Son studio, located in Manitou, Colorado. In the 1890’s, Goerke purchased the land around Balanced Rock. Goerke and his son, Curt, took photographs of tourists by the rock and sold them for 25 cents apiece. At the beginning of Goerke’s business there was no charge to view Balanced Rock. They made their money by charging for the portraits. Burros were among the props supplied by Goerke. This postcard has an Artura stamp box. The photo was taken sometime between 1908 and 1924.  (SOLD)

TWO YOUNG MEN OUT FOR A DRIVE IN A RENAULT CONVERTIBLE (1919)

This vintage real photo postcard features two young men out for a drive in a Renault convertible. Note the emblem above the front grill of the car, and also the folded down front windshield. The stretch of road that the two rode down is quite beautiful. It is a dirt road with a canopy of leaves from two columns of trees lining the way. The reverse of this postcard reveals that the postcard formerly resided in a postcard album. Writing on the back of the card indicates that it was written in 1919. The Artura stamp box dates the card somewhere between 1908 and 1924. This vintage postcard is good illustration of  Automobile History. (SOLD)

PORTRAIT OF AN ADORABLE BROTHER AND SISTER DUO: MEET CELIA AND MANUEL AGENOR

An adorable little boy and his sister pose for this vintage real photo postcard portrait at an unidentified studio. The photograph appears to have been taken outside but I have my doubts. I am pretty certain that I see a backdrop in the background. This image, based on some of it’s companion postcards, is likely from Argentina. The children in this photograph are intensely staring at the photographer. A message on the reverse of the card provides a bit of information about the children. The note is written in Spanish and states the the girl’s name was Celia Agenor and she was six years of age at the time the photo was taken. The boy’s name is either Baron Manuel Agenor or just Manuel Agenor. The Artura stamp box reveals that the postcard is from sometime between 1908 and 1924. This vintage postcard is in good condition (see scans).

PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG WOMAN : IS THAT A BABY BUMP?

This vintage real photo postcard features a full view of a young woman leaning against a table positioned behind her. Is she showing a “baby bump”. I have seen few early photographs of pregnant woman. Were women reluctant to be photographed while pregnant? Did male photographers find pregnant women to appear unseemly? One should never ask a woman if she is pregnant, nor should one congratulate a woman before it is confirmed that she is pregnant. To ignore this “rule” creates the potential for a major faux pas. This portrait postcard has an Artura stamp box indicating it dates back to sometime between 1910 and 1924. The postcard is in good condition (see scans).

PORTRAIT OF AN ADORABLE CHILD DEEP IN THOUGHT

This vintage real photo postcard features an adorable toddler deep in thought. The child is dressed in a very cute manner. This photograph was taken at the private studio of E. Bach. The embossed stamp seen in the bottom right hand corner of the image, indicates that the photo was taken in a Spanish speaking country. The word “calle” is Spanish for “street”. The Artura stamp box on the reverse of this postcard reveals that the postcard was published sometime between 1908 and 1924. This vintage portrait postcard is in very good condition. Note the adhered sticker with the number “8” on the bottom left hand corner of the card’s reverse (see scans).

This vintage real photo postcard features five well dressed citizens being photographed by the Elite Studio, located on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The gents and ladies look like they wandered off the set of “Boardwalk Empire”. Note the hats worn by this gathering of older adults.
