VINTAGE PHOTO OF MENS SOCCER OR RUGBY TEAM : STRIPED JERSEYS : INCLUDES MYSTERY WOMAN

This vintage photograph features a men’s soccer team. The player in the center of the first row is holding a soccer ball. If you look at it under magnification, you will note that the ball has stitching. Could this be a Rugby team? Nine of the team members are wearing vertically striped jerseys. Each end of the back row is occupied by a man in a suit; presumably, they are the team’s coaches. One of them is holding a cigarette. A well dressed woman is standing in the back row. I can’t help but wonder what her relationship is to this team. The answer to that question is lost to history. This photograph is unmounted and measures about 6 1/2″ x 4 5/8″. SOLD

F. C. MULHOUSE: PORTRAIT OF A FRENCH SOCCER TEAM

mulhow rugby This vintage photograph features the F.C. Mulhouse (1945/46) soccer team. After examining this photo, I was positive that this team was a rugby team, rather than a soccer team. The men on the team are certainly a scrappy group. Some of the guys are built for a scrum. My guess is that the squad was composed of ex French soldiers. World War 2 had ended only a year before this photograph was taken. The Football Club de Mulhouse was established in 1893. The team is often referred to as FCM, or Mulhouse. The team is a French association football club. It is the second oldest football club in France. Mulhouse is a city in eastern France. It is located near the Swiss and German borders. During the times that the Alsace Region was controlled by Germany, the team and city was called Mulhausen. This photograph measures about 5″ x 3″ and is in very good condition.

PORTRAIT OF A SCRAPPY SOCCER PLAYER FROM THE 1920’S (VINTAGE REAL PHOTO POSTCARD)

soccer 1 1

This vintage real photo postcard features a scrappy looking soccer player wearing his game clothes. The player looks out onto the field and exhibits a great deal of confidence. His steely gaze, his hands on his hips, and his foot firmly atop the soccer ball holding it in place, exudes a sense that this athlete is a warrior. He is daring his opponent to take the ball or the game from him. A vintage postcard with an image of an individual soccer player is relatively rare as opposed to a postcard portrait of an entire soccer team. This postcard is likely from the 1920’s.
