This vintage real photo postcard features Italian stage and film actress, Mimi Aylmer (also spelled Almieri) (1896-1992). She was a star during Italy’s fascist era. Aylmer was born in Rome. Her family was of the bourgeois class. At age seventeen, she made her debut as a chanteuse (female nightclub singer of popular songs). Shortly after her debut, she was hired by the Riviste Papa stage company. In 1914, she launched her film career. She starred in her first film and remained a major star for more than twenty years (until 1936). After World War II, she played character roles in two films before retiring from the entertainment world in 1959. In 1964, she moved to Bologna where she lived in a rest home for entertainment artists. The IMDb reports that Aylmer has twelve film credits ranging from 1914 to 1951. As this photo postcard demonstrates; Miss Aylmer was a pretty woman. She has an aura of sweetness and a nice half smile. This vintage real photo postcard has a number of interesting features. The women are posed on a fabric covered bench. They are dressed in noteworthy attire. One is wearing a nautical type outfit while the other is dressed in a kimono styled pant suit, or possibly pajamas. I wish I knew the story of these two women. What was the nature of their relationship? Sisters? Lovers? Due to the passage of time, the story has to be whatever we imagine it to be. This photograph was taken by the Foto Rembrandt studio in Bucharest, Romania. Viewing the photographers ink stamp on the reverse of the postcard, leads me to believe that the photographer was A. Maza. The stamp box indicates that the postcard was published by K Ltd sometime between 1918 and 1936. At least one postcard collector has posited that K Ltd may actually be the maker of the paper that the postcard is printed on. This vintage postcard is in good condition (see scans).

This vintage postcard is another one of those images that immediately piques my interest. I wish I knew what brought these three women together and why they are dressed the way that they are. It seems to me that the women are dressed in a fashion to represent the clothing of different ethnicities. The woman wearing the beads represents gypsies. The woman with the parasol and kimono represents the Japanese culture. The woman with a flower in her hair, represents Spain. Perhaps these ladies are dressed to go to a party. Note the cat sitting next to Miss Spain. This image is from a private studio. There is a studio name and location lightly embossed on the front of the postcard. This intriguing photo was taken at a studio located in Constanta, Romania. The city is located in the Dobruja region of Romania, on the Black Sea coast. The stamp box in this postcard indicates that the postcard was produced by K Ltd., sometime between 1918 and 1936. (SOLD)
