The beautiful woman in this cabinet card portrait is opera singer Isabelle L’Huillier. She made her debut during the 1908/1909 season with the Metropolitan Opera Company as Musetta in “La Boheme”. She concluded the season with a role in “The Bartered Bride”. Miss L’Huillier is beautifully dressed in this photograph. She is wearing a fur and a pretty hat. Always enjoy seeing images of opera singers from this era, and this is a new name to me. Apparently, just before Mademoiselle L’Huillier made her Metropolitan Opera debut, she made her U.S. debut in a production of “Faust” at the Opera House of the Brooklyn Academy of Music. She sang the role of “Siebel” in a production that boasted Enrico Caruso in the title role and Geraldine Farrar as “Marguerite.” Not too shabby! Yes, it is such a pleasure to see these important musicians from another era. I cannot imagine her achieving the celebrity status of a Lady Gaga or Beyonce today, but in that time, not-so-long ago, musicianship, talent and graceful feminine beauty were prized and honored.
