I have several old portrait cards and wonder if there is any way to identify them. I believe they are from my paternal grandfathers family.
I would start by finding out if some of your relatives also have photos or photo albums of your paternal grandfather’s family. If so, perhaps the photos have the names of the subjects appearing in the images. Writing the name of people in photos was not uncommon. Second, you can go to a genealogical site and see if there are distant relatives who have posted photos of your family members. In addition, if your photographs have the names of the photographer on them, you can maybe get some clues by the location of the photo studio. Good luck and enjoy the process; its an adventure.
