ADVERTISING INK BLOTTER : “IT PAYS TO HIRE A PAINTER” : DECATUR, ILLINOIS

This is a vintage advertising blotter for W. C. Osborn, a painter and decorator from Decatur, Illinois. The colorful lithographed design features a cheerful painter promoting the benefits of hiring a  professional. The blotter shows a young boy sitting on a Dutch Boy White Lead paint bucket. The blotter likely dates back to the 1920s. SOLD

    The boy is the “Little Dutch Boy.” He was the ‘mascot’ for Dutch Boy paints, a well-known paint company. The company may have provided the template for that blotter.

      Thanks for the info about the “Little Dutch Boy”. Once you reminded me, I remember the mascot. I looked it up and learned that Dutch Boy paints are still sold today. The company has been owned by Sherwin Williams since 1980. Thanks again for the comment.
