This vintage real photo postcard features cabaret performer Mlle. Rochet. She is wearing a provocative costume and this is a risque photo postcard for it’s era. Rochet is shown in costume for a performance at the Theatre des Varietes. The club was, and remains located, in Paris, France. It was opened in 1807. This postcard is from the very early 1900’s. It is part of a series (no. 169). The publisher or photographer is “DOL”. The card is unposted. Note the crease in the lower right hand corner. (SOLD)

This vintage real photo postcard features a young woman working as a bar maid. She seems to be enjoying herself judging by her wide smile. She is wearing a costume which includes bunny rabbit ears. The young woman is filling a beer mug at an outdoor pump. The AZO stamp box seen on the reverse of this postcard indicates that it was published sometime between 1904 and 1918.   (SOLD)

PORTRAIT OF AN ACTRESS : DRAMATICALLY DRESSED : EYE MAKE-UP : CABINET CARD

This cabinet card portrait features a pretty young woman who is probably an actress. She is wearing a theatrical type dress and the area around her eyes appear to have been enhanced by make-up. Her hair is up and adorned with a small string of pearls. Note the pin used to close the top of the front of her dress. This woman’s portrait was taken at the Elite Studio, 838 Market Street, in San Francisco, California. The studio was operated by a Mr Jones and Mr Lotz. (SOLD)

BRIGITTE HORNEY : THEATER & FILM ACTRESS :DAUGHTER OF PSYCHOANALYST KAREN HORNEY

This vintage real photo postcard features German theater and film actress, Brigitte Horney (1911-1988). She was well known for her role in “Baron Munchhausen (1943) and was considered one of Germany’s great actresses. The IMDb reports that Brigitte has 84 acting credits between 1930 and 1990. She was the daughter of a very famous psychoanalyst, Karen Horney. She moved to the United States after her mothers death to open the Karen Horney Clinic in New York City. Brigitte became a US citizen in 1953. This portrait postcard photo was taken by Hammerer. The logo for Wien Films can be seen on the lower right hand corner of the card. The postcard is part of a seies (no. A 3829/2). This postcard is in excellent condition (see scans).

XMAS DINNER : USS CEBU : NAVY : SAILORS : WORLD WAR ll : 1940’s : VINTAGE PHOTO

This vintage photograph features a group of sailors haveing Christmas dinner aboard the USS Cebu during the early to mid 1940’s. It is likely that this Navy photograph was taken during World War II. The sailors are certainly crowded together as they enjoy their holiday meal. Note the decorated Xmas tree in the background. The Cebu served as an engine repair ship. It was launched in 1943 and named after one of the islands that make up the Phiippines. While based in the Admiralty Islands, she repaired small and large ships to prepare them for the Invasion of the Philippines.  Later in the war, the Cebu was used to repair ships that were victims of Kamikaze attacks. This snapshot photograph measures 5″ x 4″. (SOLD)

ATTRACTIVE YOUNG COUPLE IN MADISON, SOUTH DAKOTA

This image was photographed by J. M. Munson of Madison, South Dakota. The photograph was taken after 1889, the date of South Dakota Statehood. Photographs before 1889 would print the location as “Dakota Territory”. The couple in this image are an attractive pair. The woman subject is wearing a pretty dress, a ring, a collar pin and a bow in her hair.  The gentleman is well groomed and dressed    in a fancy suit. The photographer of this portrait is John M. Munson. He and his family appear in the U. S. Census of 1900. He was working as a photographer and living with his wife and daughter in Madison. He was 50 years old, his wife (Ada) was 41 years old, and his daughter Josephine was 6 years old. He and his wife had been married in 1882. The census indicated that Munson was born in 1849 in Ohio. A 1909 South Dakota business directory lists his Madison photography studio. The 1910 census confirms that he still worked as a proprietor of a photography business and lived with his family. The 1920 census finds Munson unemployed, or retired, and still living with his wife and daughter.   (SOLD)

This vintage linen postcard features a street scene in Wooster, Ohio. Antique cars are prominently seen parked diaganally up the street. Note the Hotel, Ice Cream Parlor, and Rexall Drug Store. The postcard has not been mailed. It was published by Curt Teich (Chicago) and distributed by Stout’s News Agency (Wooster). (SOLD)

WOODROW WILSON : WORLD WAR I : FRENCH AND AMERICAN ALLIANCE : STATUE OF LIBERTY

This vintage postcard was published during or shortly after World War I. The “Great War” occured between 1914 and 1918. This patriotic postcard celebrates the alliance betweens the United States and France. The card features a photo of President Woodrow Wilson, the statue of liberty, and the American and French flags. The French words printed on the card are translated as “Victory for Right and Freedom”. The postcard was published in Paris by Dix as part of a series (no. 1376). SOLD
