PORTRAIT OF AN ANGELIC LITTLE GIRL IN HOUNSLOW, ENGLAND

adorable-blond-girl

A young girl with blonde hair poses for her portrait at Wards studio in Hounslow, England. Her simple dress and her eyes gazing upward gives her an angelic appearance. Hounslow is a suburban district in Greater London. Wards studio receives mention in the British Journal of Photography (1908). I have been made aware by a vintage photography enthusiast that the photographer is Lorraine Ward and she operated her business from the Stainesroad address from 1896 to 1922. The studio continued it’s existence under other ownership until 1937.

Lorraine Ward was a pioneer businesswoman and photographer in England. The premises at 43 London Street, Reading, Berkshire is still present and largely intact. The bow window and front door appear original. One of her military portraits is on eBay at item number 124308207500 Perhaps you might like to save the pictures and post to your site.

Hi, I was interested to find Lorraine Ward as female photographers are my collecting interest. But in following in this up it turns out Lorraine Ward was male – the UK census for 1871 and later 1901 provided the information. I had no idea that Lorraine could be a male name as well.
