MISS RUSSIA, MISS AUSTRIA, AND MISS HOLLAND : CONTESTANTS IN THE MISS EUROPE COMPETITION (1930)

This vintage photo postcard features three contestants in the 1930 Miss Europe contest. Most of the women in the competition had won national beauty contests in their own country and progressed to the Miss Europe contest as a warm-up to competing for the Miss World title. This photographic postcard presents Miss Russia, Miss Austria, and Miss Holland. The three contestants are beautiful and marvelously dressed. This postcard was published by Alfred Noyer. His Paris studio operated between 1910 and the 1940’s. He was very talented and well respected.    (SOLD)

    • This photograph of three contestants in the Miss World contest was the subject of some controversy today. It appears that someone posted the photo (minus the caption) in a number of sites (including facebook) and reported that the image showed the winner, Miss Palestine, and two of her runner-ups in the pageant. The poster also stated that the image was from 1947. It has been reported that that this false description of the photo was “widely circulated” and even “viral”. The popular magazine “India Today” conducted an investigation utilizing their Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA). The fact finders confirmed that the image actually showed the 1930 Miss World contestants from Russia, Austria, and Holland. Their report confirms the cabinet card gallery blog entry on this matter.. My communication on this matter is not meant to be political. I am reporting the story simply as an illustration of the reach of fake news
