TWO ADORABLE LITTLE GIRLS, THEIR TEDDY BEARS, AND THEIR PUPPY HAVING A GARDEN PARTY

This vintage real photo postcard is absolutely adorable. Kudos to the photographer. Two cute young girls smile as they enjoy their garden party. Invited guests include two teddy bears and a little white dog. The pup is sitting in wagon and appears to be doing a good job of cooperating with the photographer. The party-goers are sitting in a beautiful garden. They are surrounded by lovely flowers. One could get the impression, from looking at this image, that these sweet children may be from a wealthy family and are being photographed at their family’s estate. This photo postcard has a “AZO” stamp box which indicates it was published between 1904 and 1918. Close examination of the front of the postcard (left hand corner) reveals an embossed identification of the photographer. The photo was taken by the Rollins Photo Company of Lisbon, Ohio. Benjamin Rollins (1863-1930) is listed in the 1910 US Census and is reported to be a photographer who operated is own studio/gallery.

THE DOG SOLDIERS: SEVEN SOLDIERS AND THEIR MASCOT JACK RUSSELL TERRIER

This vintage real photo postcard features a portrait of seven young soldiers and their mascot Jack Russell Terrier. I do not know what army these men served in. Perhaps a visitor to the Cabinet Card Gallery will educate us via a comment. The stamp box on the reverse of this postcard indicates that the postcard was printed on “P M C” card stock. Therefore, this photo postcard was produced sometime between 1920 and 1935. The men served in the military between World War I and World War II.

CUTE DOG SNIFFING THE CORK ON A BOTTLE OF WHISKEY

This vintage real photo postcard features a cute dog sniffing the cork on a bottle of whiskey. Below the photo is the caption “His Master’s Vice”. The dog on this comical postcard appears to be Jack Russell or a Chihuahua. Of course, the dog certainly may be a mixed breed. The postcard was postmarked in Seattle in the year 1946. The recipient of this postcard was Colleen Bolze, a sixteen year old girl in Chanute, Kansas.  Printed on the right bottom of the card is the name “C & D”. This may represent the publisher but initial research was unable to confirm that C & D was a postcard publishing company.  SOLD

PORTRAIT OF A WOMAN AND HER TINY CHIHUAHUA IN GERA, GERMANY

A middle aged woman poses for her portrait at the studio of Gustav Fuchs in Gera, Germany. On the table next to the woman sits her cute little chihuahua wearing a harness and what looks like a dog tag. This dog is not only a miniature, but it is a miniature miniature. The woman appears to be holding back a smile. Note her pocket watch, or locket, which is hanging on a chain and resting on her midriff. The discoloration on the reverse of the photograph likely derives from the photo sitting in a frame for many decades.

PRETTY YOUNG WOMAN AND HER PIPE SMOKING DOG

This unusual cabinet card portrait features a pretty young woman and her pipe smoking dog. The young lady is flashing a terrific smile which is highly unusual during the cabinet card era. It is very understandable that she is smiling as she poses for this humorous photograph. It is my guess that the woman is a teenager. She is wearing a very busy dress and a wide-brimmed straw hat. Her canine friend is wearing a wide collar and seems to be begging for the girl’s attention. One wonders if this is a photograph of a professional dog trainer who performs in carnivals, or if this image is a reflection of a creative subject or photographer. The identity of the subject and the photographer are unknown. The dog appears to be a Boston Terrier.    (SOLD)

POTRAIT OF AN AFRICAN AMERICAN FAMILY STANDING IN FRONT OF THEIR HOUSE IN THE TEXAS HILL COUNTRY

This vintage photograph offers a glimpse into Texas history and African American history in the Lone Star state. The image features an African American family posing for the camera while standing in front of their house. I found this photograph in Fredericksburg, Texas. The town is located in the Texas hill country and is very close to Johnson City, Texas, the boyhood home of former President Lyndon Baines Johnson. A tour of the area reveals similar houses still standing today. This photograph was very likely taken in that locale. The family seen in this image is composed of a father and mother, and their two sons. All four family members are dressed in their sunday best clothing and wearing hats. The family’s dog is included in the picture and even their cat makes a cameo appearance as it walks away from the front porch. This is truly an interesting and historic photograph.   (SOLD)
