This vintage real photo postcard features stage actress Annie Hughes (1869-1954). The actress poses in this photograph with her child and her Jack Russell Terrier. Miss Hughes was born in England. As a child actress she was associated with the role of “Little Lord Fauntleroy”. The actress was married three times. She was in the title role of “Miss Tommy”, first produced at the Gaiety Theatre in 1907. In 1912 she took the production on a tour of the United States. CUTE DOG SNIFFING THE CORK ON A BOTTLE OF WHISKEY

This vintage real photo postcard features a cute dog sniffing the cork on a bottle of whiskey. Below the photo is the caption “His Master’s Vice”. The dog on this comical postcard appears to be Jack Russell or a Chihuahua. Of course, the dog certainly may be a mixed breed. The postcard was postmarked in Seattle in the year 1946. The recipient of this postcard was Colleen Bolze, a sixteen year old girl in Chanute, Kansas.  Printed on the right bottom of the card is the name “C & D”. This may represent the publisher but initial research was unable to confirm that C & D was a postcard publishing company.

PORTRAIT OF A HANDSOME MAN AND HIS HANDSOME JACK RUSSELL TERRIER (1932 RPPC)

jack

This vintage real photo postcard features a handsome grey haired older man sitting on a chair with his handsome Jack Russell Terrier sitting on his lap. The well dressed man is reading a magazine. The dog is very alert and seems very interested in whatever he is looking at. The message on the reverse of the postcard indicates that it was written in 1932. I decipher the message as the following. “Much obliged by and am very sorry about the sponges. I shall have to (give coconuts?) this year and hope that by next December contact with the Greek merchants will be restored. Best wishes to you and all your family for Christmas and the New Year.” If any visitors to the Cabinet Card Gallery can improve on my interpreting the handwriting, please do not hesitate to help via a comment. The gentleman had this photograph taken at the Proctor’s Day & Electric Light Studios in Penge, England. Penge is a suburb of southeast London.  (SOLD)jack 2
