This striking vintage real photo postcard features a portrait of a mother and father posing with their daughter. The family is well dressed. Dad has a serious expression while mom has a warm smile. She affecftionally rests one hand on the dads shoulder and the other hand on her daughter’s shoulder. The daughter’s expression indicates that she is not happy about being photographed. The AZO stampbox reveals that the card dates back to sometime between 1904-1918. Writing in the message section of the postcard informs us that the subjects of this photograph are Uncle Alfred, Aunt Wealtha, and cousin Maira. The postcard is in good condition (see scans).

A mother and her two children pose pose for a photograph in front of their house. Two cars can be seen in the background. The three family members are standing on a dirt driveway. Mom is dressed plainly. She is wearing glasses. The daughter appears to be wearing a dress that is too short. The little boy is possibly wearing pajamas. His hair is uncombed and he is barefoot. My guess is that the family had little time to prepare to be photographed as not much effort went into looking their best. This photograph was found in the Texas hill country. (SOLD)
A very fashionable family poses for their portrait in the studio of Chas. E. Webber in Leytonstone, Great Britain. Father and daughter seem to be on the same wave length; they appear to find something funny and to be holding back their laughter. Leytonstone is an area east of London and part of the Borough of Waltham Forest. This cabinet card family portrait is in good condition (see scans).

This vintage photograph features a portrait of a farm family. Pictured are likely a mother and father along with their two daughters. Also seen is a middle aged woman sitting side saddle on a donkey and holding a fancy hat. The women on the donkey is possibly the children’s grandmother. The family group is posed in front of a simple house. In the background is an out building. It looks like a barn. This photograph has many interesting features. Note that one child is holding a doll while the other child is holding her pet pug dog. The girls are wearing identical dresses and both have bows in their hair. The father is wearing suspenders and is holding a pipe. There is an antique chair near the house’s front door. Despite it’s poor condition, this photograph is rich in content and social history. The photo was purchased at a shop located in the Texas hill country. (SOLD)
This family portrait captures a well dressed family photographed by the St. Louis Gallery in Elmwood, Illinois. Mom and Dad seem solemn while their young daughter is beaming. She seems happy to have her photograph taken while mom and dad seem to be thinking about more serious matters; perhaps they’re thinking about where the money is going to come from to pay the photographer for his services. This cabinet card portrait is in very good condition.

This cabinet card features an attractive family posing for their portrait at the studio of J. F. Langhans in Prague, Czechlosvakia. Mother, father, and their two sons are all beautifully dressed. Father appears to be small of stature and looks quite austere with his hands folded across his chest and his stern facial expression. The children in this photograph seem significantly more relaxed than their parents. Take note of the style of father’s eye glasses. In regard to the photographer, Jan Langhans (1851-1926) is the best known figure in Czech photography and his gallery is still in existence. There is a wealth of information about Langhans online at the “Langhans Archive”. The site provides biographical and historical information as well as the “Gallery of Personalities”. The gallery has photographs of many prominent Czech citizens as well as well known visitors to Czechoslovakia.. These portraits date from 1890 through 1948. The studio was founded by Jan Langhans, who was a food chemist by training but developed a passion for photography. He opened his first studio in 1876 and was the preeminent portrait photographer of the region. He opened a number of branch studios throughout Czechoslovakia. He photographed many celebrities and aristocrats. After World War I the gallery possessed over a million negatives. He gave the studio to his daughter Marie and her husband Viktor Meisner. After World War II, his grandson Viktor Meisner took over the studio. In 1948, soon after the Communist take-over, the studio was nationalized and most of the negatives were destroyed. Fortunately, more negatives were discovered and they comprise the Gallery’s current collection. This cabinet card has corner wear. The photograph has excellent clarity and is in overall good condition (see scans).

This cabinet card portrait features two adorable sisters holdintg a pretty doll. Both girls have their eyes wide open as they stare at the photographer. This photo was taken by the Newman Photographic Art Studio in New York City. Samuel J. Newman originally had a partner, Edward Leaming, when he started his photography business. Between 1902 and 1906, Newman operated independently at a Lexington Avenue address. This photo was taken before he moved to the Lexington Avenue location. SOLD
Katie, Lottie, and Mattie Brown pose for this portrait at the “Cottage Gallery” of Gebhardt and Company in Memphis, Tennesse. The reverse of the card has a message sending “compliments” to the children’s Aunt Hannah and is dated “July 21/ 1887”. Note the props that the children are holding; a book, a basket, and the middle child is holding something that I can not determine. What do you think is in the basket and what is in the centered girl’s hand? Leave a comment with your ideas. (SOLD)
This unusual cabinet card captures an officer and his family posing for their portrait as they sit in a no frills carriage. The officer is joined in the photograph by two young women and a baby. He is supporting the baby with his right hand to keep her balanced as she stands on the floorboards. Presumably, one of these ladies is his wife but his relationship to the second woman is unclear. The subjects of this photograph are unidentified. The name of the photographer and the setting of this image are also unknown. Perhaps a cabinet card gallery visitor can identify the nationality of the officer by looking at his uniform. Please leave a comment if you know his nationality. I believe this cabinet card is unusual because I have seen very few cabinet card images that feature close-up views of individuals sitting in carriages. More standard are photographs of carriages, coaches, and their occupants taken at a long distance. (SOLD)
This vintage real photo postcard features two plainly dressed sisters sitting for their portrait in a studio located in St. Maur, France. St. Maur is separated from Paris by the Vincennes Forest. I believe that the two girls are sisters, but it is possible that they are mother and daughter. (SOLD)
