AN OFFICER AND HIS FAMILY POSE FOR THEIR PORTRAIT IN A NO-FRILLS CARRIAGE

OFFICER 2

This unusual cabinet card captures an officer and his family posing for their portrait as they sit in a no frills carriage. The officer is joined in the photograph by two young women and a baby. He is supporting the baby with his right hand to keep her balanced as she stands on the floorboards. Presumably, one of these ladies is his wife but his relationship to the second woman is unclear. The subjects of this photograph are unidentified. The name of the photographer and the setting of this image are also unknown.  Perhaps a cabinet card gallery visitor can identify the nationality of the officer by looking at his uniform. Please leave a comment if you know his nationality. I believe this cabinet card is unusual because I have seen very few cabinet card images that feature close-up views of individuals sitting in carriages. More standard are photographs of carriages, coaches, and their occupants taken at a long distance.

MINIATURE FAMILY AND PUG OUT FOR A STROLL

A young boy and girl pose as if they are out for a walk with a baby doll in a carriage and a  pug firmly in the girl’s arms.  The young boy is clearly a forward thinker as he has taken on the “woman’s”  role of pushing the carriage.  He is also wearing an interesting cap with a tassel.  The photograph was taken at a studio in Bourbon, Indiana. The photographer’s name is listed on the front (bottom) of the card but the name is illegible.

TWO KIDS, A GOAT, AND A CARRIAGE: FORMULA FOR FUN AND A TERRIFIC PHOTOGRAPH

Two children pose for a cabinet card photograph in a studio with fun props. The older child stands next to a goat that is harnessed to a small carriage. The youngest child sits in the buggy and holds the reins. This is an unusual cabinet card. More commonly photographs of goats are seen on cdv’s or photo postcards and the goats are generally harnessed to carts, rather than carriages. The photographer is J. J. Burnett of North Carolina.
