AN ADORABLE LITTLE GIRL SITTING IN A WICKER CHAIR : CABINET CARD

An adorable little girl sits for her portrait inside an unknown studio, in an unknown location. Identifying information about the photographer was lost when a previous owner of the image, trimmed the photograph to fit into a frame. The child posing in this photograph is seated in a wicker chair. She is wearing a cute dress and terrific hat. The child is smiling for the photographer and appears quite relaxed and radiant in front of the camera. There appears to be a toy lying next to her on the chair. It looks to be a stuffed animal, perhaps, a teddy bear. This cabinet card measures about 6.50″‘ x 4.25″. Overall, this cabinet card portrait is in good condition (see scans).

CHILD STANDING ON A WICKER CHAIR IN DENVER, COLORADO

Unlike a lot of children photographed during and soon after the cabinet card era, this child is showing some emotion. It’s exciting to be able to stand on a chair and have parental  permission to do so. The child looks adorable in his/her plaid outfit. Note the pretty wicker chair. The Nast studio captured this somewhat unfocussed but lovely portrait.

TWO GIRLS AND A DOLL IN CHICAGO HEIGHTS (OR POSSIBLY FRANKFORT STATION) , ILLINOIS

Two bright-eyed young girls sit for their portrait at the studio of Fred Heising in either Chicago Heights, or Frankfort Station, Illinois. The youngest child, sitting in a wicker chair,  has her arm firmly around the shoulders of her toy doll. The older girl stands behind her little sister, with a physical position and a facial expression that can best be described as “big sisterish”. An advertisement in the Bulletin of Photography (1912) lists Heising’s studio for sale at the price of eleven thousand dollars. The ad states that the studio had been in existence for twenty years. A little simple math reveals that this photograph was produced sometime after 1892.

CANADIAN MAIDEN POSES IN MONTREAL

A Canadian maiden poses for her portrait in Montreal, Canada. She clearly is trying to look a bit sexually provocative in this photograph. She manages to succeed in her effort; but one must remember,  a respectable turn of the century woman would not assume a more risque pose than the one she has taken in this photograph. Note the wicker furniture in this photograph. The photographers are Larin and Stidworthy of Montreal, Canada (2202 Notre Dame Street). The Larin in this partnership is Henry Larin.

CUTE LITTLE GIRL STANDING ON A WICKER CHAIR IN DULUTH, MINNESOTA

This cabinet card features an adorable little girl standing on a wicker chair as she poses for her portrait. She is barefoot and has a radiant smile. The photographer is Carl Thiel, of Duluth, Minnesota. Thiel was located on Ingalls Block, in Duluth, between 1887 and 1891. His studio moved to 105 West Superior, in Duluth, between 1891 and 1901.  It is also known that he had a studio in Hibbing, Minnesota, in 1914. Research reveals that he was a close friend of Feodor von Luerzor (1851-1913), an Austrian born landscape painter who immigrated to the United States in 1886. Thiel, a former actor, occupied a studio in the same building that Von Luezor had his painting studio. Thiel’s cabinet card work is favorably cited in Anthony’s Photographic Bulletin (1888).
