 This vintage real photo postcard is precious. A young mother and her two toddler children pose in front of their rustic looking stone house. Joining the gathering is the family dog. Mom is kneeling in order to be at the same level as her two kids. Next to the house is a stockade type fence. SOLD

TINTYPE PORTRAIT OF TWO WELL DRESSED SISTERS

This original tintype portrait features two well dressed sisters posing affectionately. Both are wearing jewelry as well as serious expressions. The photographer of this image and the location of his/her studio are unknown. The tintype is in good condition with the minimal to moderate blemishes that are often associated with this type of image (see scans). Tintype photography was most popular during the 1860’s and 1870’s.

PORTRAIT OF AN EXQUISITE MOTHER AND HER YOUNG SON

This image is an exceptionally beautiful cabinet card portrait of a pretty mother and her adorable young son. Mom is very well dressed and wearing a necklace, ring, and earrings. She appears confident as she stares at the camera. Her son, standing on a chair, has his arms draped around his mother’s shoulders. He is wearing a nautical type outfit. There is a book on a table in the background. An inscription on the reverse of the photograph indicates that mom’s name is “Jetty” and her son’s name is “Erich”, or possibly, “Emil”. The inscription is difficult to decipher, so the names I provided are just my best guess. The cabinet card photo was taken at the Strauss studio. Strauss had studios in Vienna (Austria), Brunn (Czechoslovakia), and Budapest (Hungary). It is likely that this photo comes from the studio in Brunn.  SOLD

PORTRAIT OF A FATHER AND SON IN DULUTH, MINNESOTA (SOMEONE SHOULD CALL THE FASHION POLICE)

A father and son pose for their portrait at the Tornquist gallery in Duluth, Minnesota. At least it is my hypotheses that they are father and son based on their similar facial features. It appears that the men are wearing work clothes. Hopefully the son learned a lot about life from his father. However, I hope the son did not inherit his father’s fashion sense. Dad’s striped pants and plaid shirt clash big-time. Someone should call the fashion police. Dad’s poor fashion judgement should result in a felony. The photographer of this cabinet card portrait is Axel M. Turnquist. Mr Turnquist got around. He was born in Sweden and trained as a photographer in Duluth. He  operated photographic studios in many Minnesota towns including, Eveleth, Hibbing, Aurora, Tower, Virginia, and Duluth. His photography career spanned from the 1880’s through 1923. This cabinet card is in very good condition (see scans).

PORTRAIT OF AN ATTRACTIVE FAMILY IN LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA

This vintage real photo postcard features a family portrait. The subjects are well dressed. Note the women’s large hats and the daughter’s pocketbook. The father in this photograph has a very intense expression. The former owner of this postcard believes that the photograph was taken on Easter. The subjects in this photograph are ancestors of the previous owner. This family portrait was taken by the Grand Post Card Studio in Los Angeles, California. The “PMO” stamp box indicates that the postcard was printed sometime between 1907 and 1915. This postcard is in very good condition (see scans).

PORTRAIT OF A FAMILY TREE (AKA INITIAL TREE)

This vintage real photo postcard features a family visiting the “Initial Tree”. This family is not content to have a passive sight-seeing visit to the tree. Instead, this experiential family preferred to climb the tree and have their portrait taken. Three members of the family stand at the base of the tree while four others are perched on limbs or branches looking very much like human ornaments. The message on the postcard and the date on the postmark both disclose that the card was written and mailed in 1910. The postcard is from Aunt Dora to her niece, Tilly, in Portland, Oregon. The postmark discloses that the card was mailed from Nahcotta, Washington. The town is located on Willapa Bay, on the eastern coast of the Long Beach Peninsula. Nahcotta was settled in 1890 and named after an Indian chief. This real photo portrait postcard is in very good condition (see scans).  SOLD

PORTRAIT OF A MOTHER AND HER ADULT SON IN IWAKI, JAPAN

This vintage photograph features a mother and her son. The son is wearing a western three-piece suit while his mom is dressed in a Japaese traditional kimono. Mom looks extremely serious or unhappy. The son in this photo appears to be in better spirits. Note his wire rim glasses. This photograph was taken by T. Nakashima who operated a photo studio in Iwaki, Japan. The city of Iwaki is located in Fukushima Prefecture. In terms of area, Iwaki is the tenth to largest city in Japan. This photograph was taken in the early 1920’s. The photo measures about 9″ x 6″ and is in good condition (see scans). There is an inscription on the reverse of the photograph that I can not translate.

PORTRAIT OF A ROCKABILLY FAMILY FROM THE 1800’S

This cabinet card portrait features a young husband and wife posing with their baby at a studio located in Willimantic, Connecticut. The father looks as if he may have been one of the originators of the rockabilly culture. The photographer of this image is Frank Gleason. He is listed in the 1898 Willimantic business directory as a photographer.  SOLD
