This carte de visite portrait features a most adorable little girl. Someone, likely her mother, has dressed her beautifully. She is standing on a chair without any assistance. MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMEN OF FRANCE : L’YONNE PROVINCE : PHOTO BY JEAN AGELOU
This vintage real photo postcard is part of a series named “Les Plus Belles Femmes de France” (The Most Beautiful Women of France). This series is about the Provinces of France, and the model for this image represents L’ Yonne. Note that the woman in this photograph is wearing a pretty smile. This postcard is no. 34 in the series. There were a number of different series published. The Province series was one of the more popular series. The models in this series represent different French Provinces and wear traditional clothing from that particular area of the country. This postcard was published by well known photographer Alfred Noyer. The celebrated photographer supervised a large photo studio in Paris. The Noyer Studio operated from 1910 until the 1940’s. Many of the postcards he produced of women were nudes or risque images.The photographer of this postcard portrait is Jean Agelou (1878-1921). Agelou was a French photographer of the 1910’s and 1920’s who is best known for his erotic and nude photographs. He was born in Egypt and not much is known about his private life. Agelou generally used models between the age of 20 and 24 years-old. He had a favorite model. Her name was “Fernande” and in addition to modeling, she was Agelou’s lover. Although the 1900’s was the “golden age” of erotic photograph, photographers who took such risque photos had to use discretion. As a result, Agelou signed his work “JA”. In 1908, nudity in photographs was banned in France and photographers had to cover nude women images with strategically placed undergarments or other materials. Nude images had to circulate on the down low. They were sent in the mail inside of envelopes. Fernande remained popular and her erotic photographs were enjoyed by soldiers on both sides during World War I. Jean Agelou died in 1921; the result of a car accident. His brother George, who managed Jean’s business, also was killed in the crash. This vintage postcard is in very good condition (see scans).

PRETTY YOUNG MOTHER: & HER ADORABLE CHILD STANDING ON A SWING : FRANCE : RPPC (1919)
This vintage real photo postcard features a young mother and her little girl. The child is standing on a swing secured by her mother. Both mother and daughter have wonderful smiles. The translation of the printed words beneath the image is somewhat as follows. “As I’m swayed towards you, my little heart launches”. This postmark is from 1919. MARIE LOUISE DERVAL : PERFORMER : PICASSO MODEL : PHOTO BY PAUL BOYER
This vintage real photo postcard features performer, M Louise Derval. Miss Derval looks pretty and fashionable. Note her elegant green gown, large fancy hat, long necklace, and small coin purse. Pablo Picasso drew a pen and brush portrait of Derval. It was one of four illustrations of Paris Entertainers drawn from sketches made in Paris theaters and cabarets. The portrait drawn in 1901, is now in the collection of the Morgan Library and Museum in New York City. This postcard was published by S.I.P. as part of a series (no.1305). Miss Derval’s photo portrait was taken by the well known celebrity photographer, Paul Boyer. His studio was located in Paris, France. This postcard is in very good condition (see scans).

Many of his early postcards were reproductions of artworks. He also produced illustrated patriotic postcards during World War I. With the onset of the 1920’s he began producing postcards of children and women. Many of the postcards he produced of women were nudes or risque images. Some of his postcards list his name while others are simply marked “AN”. The photographer of this postcard portrait is Jean Agelou (1878-1921). Agelou was a French photographer of the 1910’s and 1920’s who is best known for his erotic and nude photographs. He was born in Egypt and not much is known about his private life. This vintage real photo postcard features an adorable Jack Russell Terrier sitting on a pillow atop a table. The dog looks alert and ready for action. The terrier is wearing a wide collar with an attatched dog tag. The photographer did an excellent job of posing and shooting the photograph of this expressive canine. The photographer of this image was located in Paris, France. The name of the studio is embossed on the bottom right hand corner of the card. (SOLD)
ADORABLE TODDLER POSING IN A WHEELBARROW : CARTE de VISITE : LA CHATRE, FRANCE
This carte de visite portrait features a sweet looking baby sitting in a wheelbarow. This wide-eyed child has a beautiful smile. The photographer of this cdv image was Lucien Pouget (1876-1915). He began his career as a luthier (maker of stringed instruments). Pouget worked as a photographer for about 15 years. His studio was on avenue de la Gare in La Chatre, France. In World War I, he became a Private in the 276th Infanry Regiment. His time in the service lasted only seven months. He was killed in the war in 1915. His wife, Marie Pouget succeeded her husband in his photography business. The business was still operating in 1936. This cdv has some edgewear and remnant of tape on the top of the reverse of the image. It is in overall good condition (see scans).
