This vintage real photo postcard makes me smile. The card pictures two happy children posing for their portrait while holding some fun toys. These kids are ready to play. The younger child is holding a hoop toy while the older child has a ball and racquet. This photograph was taken by a photographer that may be familiar to regular Cabinet Card Gallery visitors. The gallery has a number of photos from the studio of Florencio Bixio. This talented photographer operated a studio in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Bixio specialized in studio portraits, wedding portraits, and photos of entertainers. He also was a correspondent for the magazine “Caras and Caretas”, as well as a producer of photo postcards. Between 1900 and 1930 he opened photography studios in partnership with two other photographers. These studios were called “Bixio and Merlino” and Bixio and Castiglioni”. He was of Italian descent and emigrated to Argentina in 1896. He died in Buenos Aires in 1933. This real photo postcard has excellent clarity and is in very good condition (see scans).

This carte de visite portrait features a well dressed small boy holding a stick and posing with his toy horse. A closer look at the photograph reveals that the child is holding a pull string which could use to pull the toy horse from place to place. This cdv image was taken by the Mitscher studio in Lausanne, Switzerland (circa 1900). Lausanne is a city located on Lake Geneva in the French-speaking region of Vaud. (SOLD)
This vintage real photo postcard features a young boy wearing a backpack and holding a rifle. He is wearing a feathered hat and faces the camera with much poise. The reverse of the card has the stamp of Milan photographer Attilio Badodi (1880-1967). He was a talented and very successful photographer of European celebrities. His photos immortalized many actors and actresses. He also did portraits of Benito Mussolini. The stamp box on this postcard indicates that it was published by K Ltd. sometime between 1918 and 1936. This portrait postcard is in very good condition (see scans).

This vintage photograph features an adorable little girl holding her cherished doll as she poses for her portrait at the Lancelot studio in Chaumont, France. The town is located in the North Central part of the country. Dolls have been around for a long time. In fact, there is archaeological evidence that indicates that dolls may by the oldest known toy. Wooden dolls were found in Egyptian tombs that date back to the 21st century BC. Remarkably, dolls with movable limbs and removable clothing existed in at least 200 BC. This vintage photo is in very good condition (see scans). SOLD

This vintage photograph is sweet. The photo features a young girl hugging her doll. The child has beautiful eyes and a wonderful smile. She looks so sweet. Interestingly, both she and her doll have bangs that look very much alike. The girl is wearing a pretty sweater. This color photograph is a former resident of a photo album. It is evident that the image was once held in place in an album by photo corners. This photograph found it’s way to me from Argentina. The photo measures about 3.5″ x 7.5″ and is in very good condition (see scans).

This cabinet card captures a well dressed father and his two sons posing for their portrait at the Elite studio in Dusseldorf, Germany. The father is wearing a three piece suit with a tie and a pocket watch. The older child is holding a hoop toy. Both boys are wearing naval caps with lettering spelling out “Kaiserliche Marine”. The “Kaiserliche Marine” was the name of the German Empire’s Navy. It existed between 1871 and 1919. Kaiser Wilhelm II expanded and improved the navy, as well as, broadened it’s mission. The German navy became a very powerful force, second only to Britain’s Royal Navy. This fantastic family portrait has excellent clarity and is in very good condition (see scans).

This cabinet card portrait is unusual. The typical props seen in cabinet cards are items like fences, walls, rocks, windows, books, and a number of other common objects. The five young women seen in this cabinet card are holding unusual props. Each is holding a toy cat of different sizes. The cats seem to be cut-outs. The women show a familial resemblance and are likelyssisters. They are all clad in similar long dresses. The photograph was taken at the gallery of D. Cramer. David Cramer’s photography business was located in Carey, Ohio. Cramer was born in 1854. He married Elva C. Cramer in 1882. The only mention, I could find of his occupation as a photographer, was in the 1900 US census. By 1910, the US census listed him as a painter. Note the artwork on the reverse of this photograph. The drawing is beautiful and it is related to the words, “Columbian Cabinet”, printed on the middle bottom of the front of the cabinet card. In the 19th century, Columbia was viewed as a goddess-like female “national personification” of both the United States and the concept of Liberty. Sometimes the figure was called “Lady Columbia” or “Miss Columbia”. SOLD
