ROAD TRIP: FOUR BOYS AND A FORD GALAXIE IN MEXICO

Everyday life was becoming a drag. Every day was a carbon copy of the previous day. The boys needed something to do that would break up the routine. One of the boys had an idea of how to end their restlessness. After a night of the boys boozing it up, he said, “How about a road trip?”. Agreement with the proposal was unanimous. With little planning, the boys jumped into Joe’s Ford Galaxie and drove off to the border. Once in Mexico, the boys stopped at a cafe to get some grub. A sign hanging on the side of the building advertised food. Among the selections was “Pollo” (chicken) and “Carnitas” (a tasty pork dish). The boys brought along their own liquid refreshment. A large bottle sits on top of the car and one of the boys is holding a second bottle. The odds are that the liquid refreshment was some form of alcohol. One can only imagine what occurred after this photograph was taken. Hopefully, the boys had a good time and got home safely. This photograph was taken circa  early 1960’s. The Ford Galaxie was produced beginning 1959 and the pictured vehicle is one of the early models. This vintage real photo postcard has a light crease in the lower left hand corner and is in overall good condition (see scans).

TWO ADORABLE BOYS WEARING TRADITIONAL CLOTHING IN COLMAR, FRANCE

Colmar is a town in the Grand Est region of northeastern France. It is located near the German border. Photographer, Severin Schoy operated a photo studio in Colmar. Writing on the reverse of this cabinet card photograph indicates that in 1907, Schoy photographed two young boys. Their names were Hans Malte and Herbert Crede. The lads were wearing traditional outfits from their region. They look adorable and both have wonderful smiles. This cabinet card is in very good condition. (SOLD)

FLOATING YOUNG LADIES DRESSED IN WHITE

This vintage real photo postcard features two pretty young women wearing long light colored dresses, large bows, and fun hats. The unidentified photographer of this portrait either intentionally, or unintentionally, used lighting or developing techniques that made their feet disappear under the cover of darkness. The women appear to be floating above the floor. This is a privately produced postcard. The image was taken at a photo studio. There are likely no other copies of this photograph. The “AZO” stamp box indicates that the postcard photo was taken sometime between 1904 and 1918.  (SOLD)

PORTRAIT OF A PRETTY 1950’S PIN-UP

This risque vintage photograph features a pretty model covered by an almost sheer veiled material. She is showing a great deal of bare skin. The young woman has a wonderful smile and sparkling eyes. This photograph is a pin-up from the 1950’s. Pin-ups are models that are photographed in a mass produced manner and sold in the general culture. They are meant for informal display, often pinned to a wall. The women that pose for pin-up photos may be glamour or fashion models, or even actresses.These pictures are sometimes referred to as “cheesecake photos”. This vintage Italian postcard is part of a series by Foto S.P.E.S., Roma, no. 2020.    (SOLD)

PORTRAIT OF A FATHER AND SON IN DULUTH, MINNESOTA (SOMEONE SHOULD CALL THE FASHION POLICE)

A father and son pose for their portrait at the Tornquist gallery in Duluth, Minnesota. At least it is my hypotheses that they are father and son based on their similar facial features. It appears that the men are wearing work clothes. Hopefully the son learned a lot about life from his father. However, I hope the son did not inherit his father’s fashion sense. Dad’s striped pants and plaid shirt clash big-time. Someone should call the fashion police. Dad’s poor fashion judgement should result in a felony. The photographer of this cabinet card portrait is Axel M. Turnquist. Mr Turnquist got around. He was born in Sweden and trained as a photographer in Duluth. He  operated photographic studios in many Minnesota towns including, Eveleth, Hibbing, Aurora, Tower, Virginia, and Duluth. His photography career spanned from the 1880’s through 1923. This cabinet card is in very good condition (see scans).

PRETTY TEENAGE FASHIONABLE YOUNG WOMAN

This vintage real photo postcard features a pretty young woman with a beautiful smile. . She is likely in her teenage years, and is adorably dressed. The postcard was produced by Georg Gerlach & Co.. The firm was a real photo card publisher and printer based in Berlin, Germany. A look at the reverse of the postcard indicates that it was formerly a resident of a postcard album The postcard is in very good condition (see scans).

THREE DACHSHUNDS AT WESTMINSTER KENNEL CLUB: MEET DYNAMIC JIM, NEVA, AND ZILLA

This 1955 press photo captures three adorable dachshund at the Westminster Kennel Club’s All Breed Dog Show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. These three cuties are named (left to right) Dynamic Jim, Neva, and Zilla. The owner of these three competitors was Grace M. Baves of Carmel, New York. The photo was provided to newspapers by “Wide World Photo”. The Associated Press purchased Wide World News Photo Service from the New York times in 1941. SOLD

PORTRAIT OF AN EXTREMELY HAPPY CHILD ON A TRICYCLE

This vintage real photo postcard features a happy child riding on a tricycle. The child is flashing a wonderful wide smile. Judging by the tyke’s shoes, I think the child is a girl. The AZO stamp box indicates that this postcard photo was likely taken between 1904 and 1918. This postcard is in excellent condition (see scans).  (SOLD)

TWO PRETTY TEENAGE GIRLS AND AN AKWARD POSE IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

This cabinet card portrait features two pretty teenagers in an awkward pose. Don’t blame them, blame the photographer. The girls are likely sisters, and they are well dressed, well coiffed, and wearing flowers and necklaces. What exactly was the photographer’s goal in assigning this pose. If the was trying to portray the warmth and love between two sisters; he failed. The girls were likely frozen with “photo studio anxiety” as they posed for this image. The photographer of this photograph is Louis A. Kraft (1855-1938). He operated a photography studio in Chicago, Illinois. There were times in his career that he was a solo practitioner and at other times he partnered with other photographers (Kraft & Harris, Abbot & Kraft). PORTRAIT OF STAGE PERFORMER MISS NELLIE BODEN (PHOTO BY ERNEST DYCHE OF BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND)

This vintage real photo postcard features dancer and vocalist Miss Nellie Boden. Research revealed a dearth of information about this pretty young woman. The photographer of this image is Ernest Dyche (1887-1973). He operated a studio in Birmingham, England. He was a self-taught photographer who opened his first studio around 1910. His studio was near the Bordesley Palace Theatre and Dyche became very involved with theatrical portraiture. In addition to photographing stage performers, he also produced individual, group, family, and wedding photographs. He was succeeded by his son, Ernest Malcom Dyche (1921-1990). The younger Dyche, photographed a large number of the black residents of Birmingham. His work documented members of that community and has been the subject of modern day exhibitions. This vintage postcard is in very good condition.
