A RUSSIAN MOTHER AND HER SON : WHO IS COMFORTING WHO?

This vintage photograph features a mother and her son. The pair are dressed for winter. This image exudes a lot of emotion. It is easy to sense the bond between the boy and his mother. My impression is that the photograph captures the boy comforting his mother., rather than the other way around. Each has an arm around the other, but mom looks to be in a passive role. The photograph was found in Moscow, Russia. An inscription on the reverse of the photo appears to indicate that it was taken in 1954. This photograph measures about 3 1/2 ” x 2 1/4″.  SOLD

TWO PRETTY YOUNG WOMEN ON A TOBOGGAN

sled This vintage photo postcard features two pretty young women sitting on a wooden sled. The women are flashing beautiful smiles. They are dressed for winter and fun in the snow. Note their high boots. Printed on the postcard is the Dutch phrase “Gelukkig Nieuwjaar”. The English translation is “Happy New Year”. The postcard has a Dutch stamp and is addressed to someone living in Liwwadden, Netherlands. Liwwadden is the capital of the States of Friesland and has been inhabited since the tenth century. This postcard was published circa 1930 and is in very good condition (see scans).  (SOLD)

PORTRAIT OF A DARLING YOUNG CHILD WEARING A FUZZY KNITTED WINTER OUTFIT

This original vintage photograph features a darling child sitting in an iron chair and wearing a knitted winter outfit. The fuzzy pants and sweater are accompanied by a matching beanie hat The child is displaying a tight lipped smile which promotes an impish impression. The photographer and the locale of his/her photo studio is unknown. The photograph is on thinner photo paper stock than that used for cabinet cards or cdvs. The photograph measures about 6″ x 2 3/4″ and is in excellent condition. Glue remnants on the reverse of the image indicate that the photograph is a former resident of a photo album (see scans).  (SOLD)

This vintage real photo postcard features a pretty young girl, dressed in winter clothing, posing for her portrait. Note her boots, fur collar, muff, and knit cap. The girl has long braids and  a terrific smile. This is a private issue postcard, most likely it is one-of-a-kind. The postcard is of British origin and is from circa 1920’s. This unique winter fashion postcard is in excellent condition (see scans).

YOUNG MAN WEARING A FUR COAT AND FUR HAT IN SEAFORTH, ONTARIO

The young man in this photograph is well prepared for a cold Canadian winter. He is wearing a fur coat and fur hat. The photographer who took this portrait is William F. Tate who operated a studio in Seaforth, Ontario, Canada. This vintage photograph measures about 6″ x 4 1/4″.   SOLD

SAD PHOTOGRAPH OF A BABY IN A COFFIN SURROUNDED BY GRIEVING FAMILY

I apologize to any Cabinet Card Gallery visitors who find this photograph upsetting or offensive. It is important to keep in mind that post mortem photographs such as this one, were not produced for voyeuristic purposes. Instead, these images were made for families to preserve their memories of their deceased loved ones. Nevertheless, I recognize that these photos are often upsetting to viewers, and in fact, no matter how many post mortem images I have seen, they still stir up a lot of sad emotions for me. The previous owner of this photograph reports that it was taken in Russia in the mid 1920’s. Pictured in the image is a baby in a small coffin covered by flowers, surrounded by grieving family. The mourners are dressed in dark winter clothing indicating that the photograph may have been taken outdoors.  (SOLD)

PORTRAIT OF A LITTLE GIRL ALL BUNDLED UP FOR WINTER

This vintage photograph features a cute little girl all bundled up in her winter outdoor clothing. Her coat and hat are unique by todays standards. She is wearing gloves and a nice grin. This photograph was taken by the studio belonging to John D. Strunk. He was a talented and prolific photographer who operated a studio in Reading, Pennyslvania. According to evidence gathered in preliminary research, he worked as a photographer between 1888 and 1910. This photograph measures about 5 3/4″ x 7 3/4″ and was taken during the last half of his career. An additional aspect of this photograph is that there is a ghost image on it’s reverse. SOLD

This vintage real photo postcard captures a mother and her two young children posing for their portrait at an unidentified photo studio. The whole family appears quite apprehensive about having their photograph taken. The trio are dressed for winter. All three are wearing winter coats and hats. The older child is wearing gloves and the youngest child is wearing a muff. This image features a  truly attractive family.

This vintage photograph features an adorable young boy wearing a wooly snow suit with matching leggings. He is also wearing a naval officer’s hat that has an eagle emblem. The photographer is the E. Stern studio in Northampton, Pennsylvania.
