This cabinet card portrait features a lovely young Serbian couple. The pair are very well dressed. The young man is wearing a pocket watch and a wedding ring on his left hand. Perhaps this image is a wedding portrait. The young woman is wearing a traditional dress and lots of lace. She is holding something in her right hand that I am guessing is a hat.  The couple looks very young and very innocent. The reverse of the cabinet card has the stamp of Bernhard Wachtl, an Austrian lithographer whose printing firm was located in Vienna, Austria. He designed and printed logos of photographic studios during the cabinet card era. His clients included photo studios located throughout most of the world.

This vintage real photo postcard is spectacular. The postcard features a beautiful sexy young woman wearing a provocative dress and the most amazing head dress. This young woman is making a fashion statement that demands attention. The scallop edged postcard is from around the 1920’s.

Two young children are checking out their baby sibling and they don’t seem overly thrilled about his/her presence. The two older kid’s expressions are priceless. They seem to be feeling a combination of disbelief and disapproval. The baby also seems quite dubious about his/her situation. This real photo vintage postcard was produced by the Gaudernack studio in Dresden, Germany. The studio’s stamp is embossed on the front of the postcard.

LOVELY YOUNG WOMAN AND A BOOK IN BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS

This cabinet card portrait features a lovely young woman holding an open book or magazine. She is nicely dressed and has accessorized herself with a bracelet, collar pin, and broach. She is displaying what appears to be a half smile. This photograph was taken at the Hardy Studio in Boston, Massachusetts. Amory Nelson Hardy (1835-1911) was born in Cumberland, Maine. He was married to Angeline Davis (1833-1920). In the beginning of his photography career he worked in Bucksport, Maine. He then moved to Boston and had a studio on Washington Street (1868, 1879-1887) and Winter Street (1873-1878). These dates are only a partial representation of his career. YOUNG GIRL OUT FOR A DRIVE IN SOUTH HAVEN, MICHIGAN

A young girl sits behind the wheel of an open early automobile in this vintage real photo postcard. She is dressed femininely with puffy sleeves, a wooly hat and a necklace with a locket. The photograph was taken at the Novelty Photo Studio in South Haven, Michigan. The photographer was Charles M. Erard who conducted business in South Haven beginning circa 1905. The Bulletin of Photography (1915) announced his move to Battle Creek, Michigan. He was in Battle Creek working as a photographer until at least 1930. He also had a studio in Albion, Michigan around 1910.

AN INCREDIBLY DAPPER YOUNG MAN IN MARIETTA, OHIO (1903)

This wonderful vintage photograph features a very dapper looking young man. He is dressed beautifully in his dark sport jacket and slacks and light vest. Note his large collar, wide tie and tie tac. His hat is worn on just the right angle and the brim is bent in just the right way. This “cool dude” has an expression that shouts “I am cool and ready for anything”. The photograph comes from the studio of Fisher and Graessle which was located in Marietta, Ohio. Harry Phillip Fisher (1879-1949) was born in Ohio and began his career working in his father’s shoe store. When his cousin, Carl Graessle, came to visit, Fisher’s career plans changed dramatically. Cousin Carl was a photographer in Cincinnati and the two cousins decided to open a photo studio in Marietta. They opened the studio in 1901 and it was located above the Fisher shoe store. The partnership dissolved in just two years and Graessle returned to Cincinnati. Fisher kept his photography business going until his retirement in 1949. He did portraits, landscapes, and photographed local events. His business included producing real photo postcards. A large collection (over 8,000 images) of his work is owned by Marietta College. Fisher was married to Daisy E. Fisher in 1906. He is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Marietta.  (SOLD)

FANCY CAR AND FANCY DRIVER IN SCHONINGEN, GERMANY (RPPC 1934)

A classy looking man and his classy looking automobile are the subject of this vintage real photo postcard produced by a photographer named Herr Wurm in Schoningen, Germany. The car looks new and is absolutely beautiful.The owner of the auto must love the car. He is showing his affection by putting one foot on the running board and placing his hand against the car’s door. He looks quite stylish with his white coat, dark hat, and driving gloves. There is something sticking out of his coat pocket. It may be a wallet and you can be sure that he had to be somewhat wealthy to afford this luxurious car. The town of Schoningen is in the district of Helmstedt, in Lower Saxony, Germany. The community is known for its mining of lignite. The writing on the reverse of this photo postcard is dated 1934. The postcard is not postmarked and was likely mailed inside of an envelope.   (SOLD)

SWEET LITTLE GIRL AND HER DOLL IN ANNECY, FRANCE (CARTE DE VISITE PHOTOGRAPH)

This carte de visite photograph features a portrait of an adorable little girl. She has the most interesting riveting eyes. She is wearing a long necklace and has a bow in her hair. The child is wearing boots and a short dress. During a recent trip to Austin, I noted that this style of dress was quite popular on the University of Texas campus. The little girl is standing next to her toy doll. This photograph was taken by J. Favrat who operated a studio in Annecy, France. The printing on the reverse of the image indicates that Favrat had won honors for his photography at a Paris exhibition in 1899. Therefore, we can safely conclude that this cdv photograph was produced sometime shortly after that date.

RELAXED COWBOY WITH A WRY SMILE AND A PIPE

A relaxed cowboy with a wry smile poses for this vintage real photo postcard. The image is taken in a photographic studio likely located in the western United States. The cowboy is wearing a vest and a pocket watch. He is holding a pipe. His lace shoes seem to have kicked around a lot of dust in their time. The postcard’s AZO stamp box indicates that it was produced sometime between 1904 and 1918.
