BRIDE AND GROOM IN MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN

This photograph is a portrait of a bride and groom posing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The bride is holding a bouquet of flowers and appears to have flowers pinned to the front of her dress as well as to her shoulders. Perhaps a visitor to this site knows  if such pinnings were the practice of that era.  The bride, in a high collar gown,  is also wearing flowers in her hair and white gloves. The groom looks dapper in his three-piece suit. Note that the ends of his mustache curve upwards. The photographer is Charles Brodesser (1857- ?) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Brodesser was born in Germany and emigrated to the United States in 1872. He settled in Milwaukee in 1877. Further biographical information about Brodesser has not yet been found.

IS THIS GUY A FAMOUS ACTOR OR DOES HE JUST LOOK LIKE ONE?

This is another Cabinet Card which presents some mystery. Emil Scholl is the Philadelphia photographer who took this image but who is this interesting looking gentleman. On the reverse of the card is the scribbled name of what looks to be “Charles Thomas” or “Charles Thome”. Both names are names belonging to actors of this period.  The Cabinet Card Gallery includes images of actors photographed by Scholl . Even if the subject of this photograph is not an actor, the image has great clarity and presents an imposing man with much character. Note the handlebar mustache.

Amazing Mustache in Waterville, Maine

moustsache

The gentleman pictured in this Cabinet card has a mustache of distinction. In my years of collecting Cabinet cards I have yet to find a mustache quite as impressive as this one. Preble and Jordan of Waterville, Maine is the photographic studio where this picture was taken. Waterville is located in south central Maine. Early industries included fishing, lumbering, agriculture and ship building. There was also a waterpower company established and a number of  mills.
