Frankie Kemble: Stage Actress

kemble_0016

Frankie Kemble, stage actress, is seen in this Cabinet card by Benjamin Falk of New York City.  Falk was a very well known photographer who specialized in photographing theatrical celebrities. I have yet to find much information about Kemble except that she did reach “stardom”. This beautiful actress appeared in a number of plays including “Sybil” (1888) and “The Mikado  (1885).

Frankie Kemble was apparently considered a great beauty of her day.

This New York Times article has a story about her intervention in saving the residents of an actors home from abuse by those in charge. It sounds like something out of Dickens.

She appeared on dozens of cigarette & tobacco cards in the 1880’s, so she must have been rather popular. However, it’s hard to find information on Frankie. There are some mentions here and there but not much. Anybody know where and when she was born/died?
