I have a large wedding portrait fro what appears to be around the turn of the century (1900’s) which has a the name Kleiu Photograph and Portraits Milwaukee Wisconsin. I was wondering about the history of this business or the photo itself
The first time I did a preliminary investigation of this photographer I found absolutely nothing about him other than what I already knew from this cabinet card. After receiving your request, I tried again and learned only two additional facts about him. I found that he is listed in the 1898 Milwaukee city directory as a photographer and that his full name is Charles Kleiu. If you are serious about getting more biographical information about Mr Kleiu, I suggest that you contact the Milwaukee Historical Society for some assistance. They may have a file on early Milwaukee photographers or may be able to refer you to other sources. Good luck and if you wouldn’t mind, please report back to the cabinet gallery on your findings.
