This cabinet card portrait captures four siblings posing for their photograph. There are several things of note in this image. First, the little boy is wearing a plaid double breasted suit as well as a bow tie and pocket chief. The boy’s pants are knicker style. The baby in this photograph is sitting in a baby carriage and appears quite attentive. The two oldest children have a hand on the carriage, keeping it securely in place. The photographer of this image is W. Slocum, who operated a studio in East Jordan, Michigan. Printing below the image indicates that this photograph was taken in 1893. SOLD

That baby carriage looks remarkably like a grocery shopping cart.
I had the exact same thought and almost wrote it in the description of the photograph. I also thought that the carriage seen in this image would never pass federal safety regulations. The grocery cart design at the front of the carriage would be extremely dangerous for a baby.
Reminiscent of the similar contraption shown in the family picture you posted on June 3, 2017 (Sorry … I had to look back and find it). Neither seems practical and looks like one device stacked on another…. but it does help pose the baby.
