A beauty
A beauty for sure. I wonder (pure speculation) if she could be a widow. She has sadness in her gaze (again, my opinion). Her dress is heavy and dark (perhaps black?) and she is alone in the photo despite looking like a ‘good catch’. The locket is very prominent and it would be easy to image it to be a keepsake of a lost husband. It would be very interesting to get the opinion of an expert in 19th century fashion on this! Very nice, thanks for posting it.
I’m just glad the photographer didn’t ask her to smile.
Just noticed … that ‘locket’ seems to have a stem. Could be a watch?
