BOY RIDING A WATER BUFFALO (VIETNAM 1952)

water buffalo

This vintage snapshot photograph features a young boy riding on a water buffalo. The child is lightly holding the reins of the huge animal. Note the animal’s large horns. The young rider is wearing a wide brimmed hat to protect himself/herself from the sun. A notation on the reverse of the photo indicates that the photograph was taken in 1952. Interestingly, the water buffalo is the traditional symbol of Vietnam. The animal signifies bravery, happiness, and prosperity. Water Buffalo are very important to the farmers of Vietnam. They are strong and hard working animals. This snapshot photo measures about 3 1/4″ x 2 1/8″ and is in very good condition (see scans).
