This vintage real photo postcard features a British lightship named “Tongue”. The lightship was stationed in the Thames Estuary, 8 miles North of Margate. Lightships are ships that are employed as a substitute for a lighthouse. The need for lightships is that some waters are too deep or have other problems that interfere with lighthouse construction. This postcard was published by A.H. & S. in their “Paragon Series” (no. M.90). The publisher was located in Margate. This ship postcard is in excellent condition (see scans).
