This beautiful antique British real photo postcard, postmarked in 1907, features Evelyn Nesbit (1884–1967), the celebrated American artist’s model, Broadway showgirl, and renowned beauty, pictured with her luxuriant dark hair, delicate necklace, and elegant feather-trimmed attire. Nesbit became the central figure in one of America’s most sensational scandals when her wealthy husband, Harry Kendall Thaw, murdered prominent architect Stanford White in 1906, allegedly motivated by jealousy over White’s earlier relationship with his wife, leading to the notorious 1907 murder trial that captivated the international press. Published by the Rotary Photographic Company (No.4411 C). The postcard bears a green British King Edward VII halfpenny stamp and a 1907 cancellation, making it particularly interesting because it was mailed during Thaw’s highly publicized trial. Addressed to someone in Hampton Wick, Kingston-on-Thames, the handwritten message asks, “Is this the card you wanted?” and explains that the sender selected it from half a dozen different photographs and would gladly provide another.
