Meet Willie Howard Smith. He was three and a half years-old at the time of this photograph, which was in 1890. Willie is adorable as he poses for his photograph in his sailor suit. He is wearing a wonderful cap which is covering his longish hair. The photographer of this cabinet card portrait is Kuebler, who was located in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Research discloses some interesting information about the photographic studio. The studio was co-owned and operated by brothers William Kuebler and Louis H. Kuebler. They were very successful photographers and one of their photographs of Walt Whitman is very well known among those that study the great poet. A news article in The Photographic Times (1888) announces the “largest contract ever made in the photographic line” had been awarded to William Kuebler to photograph the members of the Mexican Typical Orchestra. In all, 4,750 photographs were ordered. The cabinet card has an extremely slight curl and is in overall Good Condition (see scans).

This cabinet card photograph features an adorable little boy posing next to a large dog. The boy is fashionably dressed. The dog appears to be some type of Retriever. Note the painted backdrop behind the boy and his dog. This photo was taken by G. M. Greene. His studio was located in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. George Miles Greene married Jennie Davidson in 1861. The couple were divorced in 1880. “The Photographic Times” printed an obituary for Greene in 1895. He passed away at age 65. It is noted that he had a “large practice” in Johnstown before the great flood of 1889. His studio was swept away and “carried down the raging Conemaugh River”. He built a new studio after the flood. In 1894 he sold the business to the Boston Art Company. Greene was forced to sell the business due to ill health. (SOLD)

A young girl wearing a winter coat and winter hat poses for her photograph at Miller’s Photo Company in Dover, New Hampshire. She is wearing a striped coat with big buttons and has a large fur muff to warm her hands. Judging by my observation of many cabinet cards, the striped coat is not typical winter wear for the era. The large stripes on the coat makes it look like prison garb. Note the fake snow in the background of this image. The reverse of the photograph has a printed advertisement that indicates that photographer Miller’s main gallery was located in Birmingham, Connecticut. The likely photographer of this cabinet card was William E. Miller. Miller had a number of studios located in Connecticut. His gallery locations included the towns of Ansonia, Birmingham, Derby and Shelton. Miller is credited with taking some of the photographs for a book entitled The History of the Old Town of Derby, Connecticut 1642-1880 (1880). SOLD
This vintage real photo postcard features an adorable little girl holding a bouquet of pink flowers. The girl is bright eyed and is flashing a beautiful smile.
