This vintage real photo postcard features French bantam weight boxer, Pierre Calloir (1898-?). He fought between 1919 and 1929. Calloir was no champ, but he also was no chump. His record in the ring was 23 Wins (11 by knockout), 28 losses (10 by knockout), and 11 draws. This postcard was made in France and published by DIX in Paris. (SOLD)
This vintage real photo postcard falls under the category of “incredibly cute”. The photograph shows an adorable curly and golden haired little girl giving her porcelain doll a bath in a wooden barrel tub. Two additional dolls are seated in a chair beside her awaiting their turn in the tub. Behind the little girl is a clothes line from which the doll’s clothes are hanging to dry. Scattered around are some unused clothes line pins and under the small table holding the tub, one can find the doll’s shoes. The scene is terrifically posed. The postcard is of French origin and published by Fauvette (#1302). The postcard is postmarked in 1913. (SOLD)

This vintage real photo postcard features dancer Madia Borelli. She was a Parisian dancer active in the early twentieth century. The photographer of this portrait of Miss Borelli was the famed photographer Leopold Reutlinger of Paris, France. This vintage real photo postcard features an adorable young woman holding a gorgeous white cat. The woman has a perfect smile and the wide-eyed cat’s expression is priceless. The message, written in French, on the reverse of the postcard is “see you soon”. The postcard is addressed to a woman in the town of Montauban which is located in southern France.This postcard was published by Rotophot, which began publishing “RPH” postcards sometime around 1916. This vintage real photo postcard is part of a series named “Les Plus Belles Femmes de France” (The Most Beautiful Women of France). This series is about the Provinces of France, and the model for this image represents La Berrichonne (The Berry). This postcard is no. 41 in the series. There were a number of different series published. The Province series was one of the more popular series. The models in this series represent different French Provinces and wear traditional clothing from that particular area of the country. The province of Berry is a historical province of France that disappeared with the French Revolution. It is one of the oldest agricultural areas in France. To view other postcards from the provincial series, place the words “Les Plus Belles” in the search box. This postcard was published by well known photographer Alfred Noyer. The celebrated photographer supervised a large photo studio in Paris. The Noyer Studio operated from 1910 until the 1940’s. Many of his early postcards were reproductions of artworks. He also produced illustrated patriotic postcards during World War I. With the onset of the 1920’s he began producing postcards of children and women. Many of the postcards he produced of women were nudes or risque images. Some of his postcards list his name while others are simply marked “AN”. The photographer of this postcard portrait is Jean Agelou (1878-1921). Agelou was a French photographer of the 1910’s and 1920’s who is best known for his erotic and nude photographs. He was born in Egypt and not much is known about his private life. Agelou generally used models between the age of 20 and 24 years-old. He had a favorite model. Her name was “Fernande” and in addition to modeling, she was Agelou’s lover. Her full name was Fernande Barrey (1893-1960). She was a prostitute by trade. She also modeled for for painters (Amadeo Modigliani and Chaim Soutine). Fernande later became a painter. Although the 1900’s was the “golden age” of erotic photograph, photographers who took such risque photos had to use discretion. As a result, Agelou signed his work “JA”. In 1908, nudity in photographs was banned in France and photographers had to cover nude women images with strategically placed undergarments or other materials. Nude images had to circulate on the down low. They were sent in the mail inside of envelopes. Fernande remained popular and her erotic photographs were enjoyed by soldiers on both sides during World War I. Jean Agelou died in 1921; the result of a car accident. His brother George, who managed Jean’s business, also was killed in the crash. (SOLD)

Her body language exudes confidence, perhaps even sassiness. This risque postcard was published by Leo of Pradot and manufactured by A. Lochard & Co. in Paris, France. This postcard is part of a series (no. 68). The Leo firm operated in the mid 1920’s and published many types of real photo postcards. They were especially noted for producing a large amount of nude postcards. Postcards such as this one were considered art during the time that they were published. (SOLD)
This vintage real photo postcard features a pretty young woman wearing unusual attire. She is dressed in clothing that indicates that this photograph was taken during the “flapper” era. Note her interesting hat, knitted fringed shawl, hoop earrings, and high heel shoes. The woman has a beautiful smile. On the floor, next to her chair, is a bouquet of flowers. The previous owner of this photo postcard asserted that it is of French origin. The “AZO” stamp box reveals that the photo on this postcard was taken sometime between 1926 and the 1940’s. This postcard is unique in that it was produced at a private studio, rather than mass produced at a postcard publishing company. (SOLD)
This vintage real photo postcard features a falconer, in native garb, and his falcon. The art of falconry may date back to the time of Mesopotamia (2000 BC). Falconry involves hunting wild animals using a trained bird of prey. Commonly used birds of prey are Red-tailed and Harris hawks, as well as Peregrine falcons. This postcard was published by Jomone which was a large colonial era photographic studio. The photographer of this image worked for OFALAC (communication office and press agency of the General Government of Algeria). The office was established at the time of the centenary of Algeria in 1930. This postcard is part of a series entitled “Scenes Et Types (no, 54)”. The photograph was taken in “Alger” which is a former colonial French province that existed between 1848 and 1962.

This vintage real photo postcard features an attractive young woman sitting in a chair by a fireplace. She is reading a magazine by the light of the fire. The young lady is adorned with a lot of jewelry (two bracelets, a necklace, and a ring). She is wearing a pretty dress and a pretty smile. The postcard was published by Rotophot Berlin (RPH). It is part of a series (no.3677/2). Rotophot made it’s debut in Berlin, Germany around the turn of the century (1900). The company had other European offices including London and Budapest. They published many different postcard topics including stage stars. Many of their early postcards were tinted. Eventually Rotophot morphed into “Ross Verlag”, a postcard company that collectors know for the many postcards they produced featuring actors and actresses. This postcard has a French stamp. SOLD
