This vintage real photo postcard features a portrait of a very attractive young woman. She is displaying a very serious expression as she looks directly at the camera. She is well adorned with pretty flowers. The postcard is addressed to, and postmarked at Tourcoing, France. Tourcoing is a city in northern France. The postcard has a French stamp.
This vintage postcard features a very beautiful woman dressed for tennis and holding a tennis racquet. Her tennis clothing may appear to be a bit impractical for the demands of a tennis match, but this is the attire that women actually wore at the time this postcard was published. The postcard is postmarked 1923 and was mailed from Portugal. The card was published by PFB (Paul Finkenrath) of Berlin, Germany. It is part of a series. (no. 3075/4). The Paul Finkenroth company made quality photo postcards and the company was heavily oriented toward export. They were known to be responsive to printing postcards that they’re customers desired over time. They were quite profitable but closed in 1911 when protective tariffs interfered with their business. The company was established by Paul Finkenrath and Paul Grasnick in 1897. The partnership lasted about a year and then Grasnick left to start his own lithography studio. This vintage real photo postcard features a scantily clad sexy young woman wearing a “come hither” expression. There is little doubt that this postcard portrait was meant to be sexually inviting. This image supports the principle that “sex sells”. Sex sold products in the early 1900’s just as it does today. This postcard is of German origin. It was published by “NPG” (Neue Photographische Gesellschaft). The company was a leading bromide photo printing company for many years. The stamp box of this particular postcard has an interesting story. “NBC” (Neue Bromsilber Convention) was price cartel established in 1909 that continued until the 1930’s. The purpose of the cartel was to ensure that the minimum price charged for postcards was kept at a sufficiently profitable level. A number of postcard publishing companies joined the cartel in an effort to stave off the effect of competition on the pricing of postcards. (SOLD)

A pretty young woman in a dark dress with a white lace bib poses for her photographic portrait at the Thompson studio in Amesbury, Massachusetts. The young lady is posed behind an ornate chair and alongside an open cabinet card album. The album sits on a stand for easy viewing. The portrait is a product of a photographer named W. C. Thompson. Mr Thompson operated the Opera House Studio in Amesbury, Massachusetts, as well as the Globe Studio which was located in Newsburyport, Massachusetts. This vintage real photo postcard features a pretty woman posing for her portrait at a studio in Focsani, Romania. Foscani is the capital city of Vrancea County and is located on the shores of the Milcov River in the historic region of Moldavia. The woman in this image is nicely dressed in what I believe is a traditional regional clothing. She is wearing a flower in her hair and she is coyly looking at the camera. Note that the photographer’s backdrop does not meet the floor. Writing on the reverse of this postcard indicates that the photograph was taken in 1937 and that the postcard was addressed to an individual living in Bucharest, Romania. Bucharest is that nation’s capital and largest city.
This vintage photograph features a pretty young woman wearing a loud polka dot dress accented with ruffles and satin. I think she looks terrific and I appreciate the variation from the typical conservative dark dresses we typically see in photographs from this post cabinet card era. I believe a woman who decides to wear a dress such as this one, must have confidence that she can “pull it off” and not look silly. I also think that she must welcome attention and not be particularly inhibited. Note her relaxed pose. An inscription on the reverse of the photograph identifies this fashionista as “Winifred Gardner Treipp” or possibly “Winifred Gardner Treiff”. I did a search for biographical information about Winifred, using both spellings of her last name. Unfortunately, I found no information and no leads. Perhaps one of the Cabinet Card Gallery’s visitor’s can discover some facts about this fashionable lady.
A pretty young fashionable lady poses for her portrait at the Hopkins studio in Palmyra, New York. She has a large spray of flowers pinned to her lovely dress. She is wearing a ring on each hand and a pleasant half-smile on her face. The photographer of this wonderful fashion image is Alfred C. Hopkins (1852-1940). He listed in the “Village of Palmyra Residents Directory” (1901-1902) which lists his gallery address as 81 Main Street. He provides a testimonial for Eastman’s Solio Photographic Paper (made by Eastman Kodak) in “Pacific Coast Photographer” (1894). Hopkins was born in England. He was married to H. Clara Hopkins and was widowed and retired by the time of the 1930 census. Interestingly, the first reference to Hopkins as a photographer was found in an 1869 city directory. He was only about 19 years old and was clearly a pioneer in the field. Hopkins died in 1940 and is buried in the Palmyra Cemetery. SOLD
The pretty woman in this cabinet card photograph certainly knew how to dress fashionably. To accentuate her beauty her hair is carefully styled and she is wearing jewelry. She has a solemn expression as she intensely stares at the photographer. The photographer of this wonderful portrait was A. Newman of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This cabinet card features a very pretty and very fashionable young woman. She is wearing a beautiful beaded dress and a couple of bracelets, earrings, necklace and ring. She certainly had fashion sense and wore clothing well. The photographer and the location of the studio are not indicated on the cabinet card. However, there is an inscription on the reverse of the image. The initials “GSR” and the name “Mary Wood” provide some clues to the identity of the woman. Also written on the reverse of the card is the year “1881” which is clearly the year that this photograph was taken. SOLD
