AN ADORABLE LITTLE GIRL SITTING IN A WICKER CHAIR : CABINET CARD

An adorable little girl sits for her portrait inside an unknown studio, in an unknown location. Identifying information about the photographer was lost when a previous owner of the image, trimmed the photograph to fit into a frame. The child posing in this photograph is seated in a wicker chair. She is wearing a cute dress and terrific hat. The child is smiling for the photographer and appears quite relaxed and radiant in front of the camera. There appears to be a toy lying next to her on the chair. It looks to be a stuffed animal, perhaps, a teddy bear. This cabinet card measures about 6.50″‘ x 4.25″. Overall, this cabinet card portrait is in good condition (see scans).

CENTERPORT, LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK : POSTCARD SHOWING CHURCH : “H. OF A TIME”

This vintage postcard features two church buildings located in Centerport, Long Island, New York. The message on the card is ironic. On a church postcard, the writer wrote that he/she was “Having a H. of a time”. Preliminary research strongly suggests that this card pictures the Centerport Methodist Church. Two adorable kids pose for photographer Rud Bachmann whose studio was located on Broadway in New York City. The older child is holding a walking stick. It is very likely that the children are siblings. The photographer’s full name is Rudolph Bachmann. He was born in 1850 in Switzerland. He came to the United States in about 1880 and by 1884 was operating a photography business at 1437 Broadway in New York City. PORTRAIT OF A PRETTY WOMAN : BEDROOM EYES : SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA

This cabinet card features a portrait of a pretty and curly haired young woman. She is wearing a light colored dress with lace and a pin (jewelry) that appears to secure the lace. I would estimate that she is in her teenage years. She is well poised and relaxed in front of the camera. Perhaps she is an actress. Her face is very expressive. She has beautiful and engaging eyes. This cabinet card photograph was taken at the Wilbur Wright’s studio. The studio was located in San Jose, California. The photographer of this cabinet card is Wilbur W. Wright whose studio was located in San Jose, California. He is not the famed aviation pioneer, Wilbur Wright, brother of Orville Wright. Photographer Wright is listed in a number of San Jose business directories ranging from 1890 through 1907. The address of his gallery is listed as 24 Santa Clara Street, and not 284 Santa Clara Street, as printed on this cabinet card. (SOLD)

TWO BOYS RIDING BIG HORSES : WESTERN TOWN : DIRT STREETS : RPPC : (1904-1918)

Look who’s riding into town! Its the Roberts brothers. Someone better go get the sheriff. This real photo postcard is quite interesting. The boys look comfortable on their horses. The kids are on large horses, not small ponies reserved for inexperienced child riders. They appear to know what they are doing. One of the boys has a whip. No cowboy hats for these guys. One is wearing a wide brim bowler while the other is sporting a cap. Note the dirt streets. The town may actually be a frontier town in the “old west”. Also take notice of the boy standing on the sidewalk. He seems truly interested in the horseback riders, or perhaps, the photographer. The young bystander is wearing knickers. The AZO stamp box on this postcard reveals that it was likely published sometime between 1904 and 1918. The cameraman was a studio photographer who was willing to take difficult photographs in the outdoors. (SOLD)
