HANDSOME UNIFORMED FIREMAN : MARION FIRE DEPT., PENNSYLVANIA : VINTAGE PHOTO

This vintage photograph features a handsome uniformed fireman posing for his portrait at the Strunk Studio in Reading, Pennsylvania. The fireman has a terrific looking mustache. The insignia on his cap indicates that he was a member of the Marion Fire Department. Interestingly, Marion is located in Franklin County, about 120 miles away from Reading. Marion was named after Francis Marion, the American Revolutionary War heroic army officer, known as the Swamp Fox. The Strunk studio was operated by John D. Strunk, a talented and prolific photographer. (SOLD)

RELIGIOUS CEREMONY

This cabinet card features two young girls participating in a religious ceremony, Note the religious symbols on the table between them. The girls are dressed in their finest clothing and adorned with flowers. The photograph was produced by John D Strunk of Reading, Pennsylvania. ATTRACTIVE FAMILY POSES FOR PORTRAIT IN READING, PENNSYLVANIA

John D. Strunk , a photographer from Reading, Pennsylvania, produced this portrait of an attractive young family. Mother and father pose with their four young children. The children are so close in age that it is possible that two of them may be twins. The two girls in the front of the photograph are wearing similar but not identical dresses. Perhaps their mother made them with the same materials and creatively gave them some variation. This image is an excellent family portrait which manages to capture each child in a reasonably good pose. An advertisement on the reverse of the photograph boasts “Instantaneous Portraits of Children  Successful Specialty”.  The self promotion appears to be well deserved. BRASS BAND IN READING, PENNSYLVANIA

The Boys in the Band gather for this cabinet card photograph by photographer John Strunk, in Reading, Pennsylvania. The uniformed brass band consists of four member. A consultation from the Cabinet Card Gallery’s unpaid research department would be helpful, but for the time being, I will identify the bandsmen’s instruments as being a clarinet, trumpet, french horn and a flute.
