ADORABLE BABY IN GREAT FALLS, NEW HAMPSHIRE

This cabinet card photograph is a portrait of an adorable baby photographed by the studio of B Etter in Great Falls, New Hampshire. The baby is wearing a long white linen gown and is propped in a chair. The reverse of the card has the penciled name of Miss Mary Hanscom who is likely the subject of this photograph.   1. The little girl wearing the sailor’s hat is probably a little boy. Long hair was fashionable for children of both sexes in this period and both sexes were dressed in skirts when young, even into the 20th c., for practical reasons (think about “going to the bathroom”).
