This is a portrait of actress Belle Archer, who made a great hit on tour in Hoyt’s musical comedy, “A Contented Woman.” I’ve seen several portraits of her, and there is no doubt. I am a retired theater professor and theater historian. Belle Archer will appear in a book I am writing about the professional touring theater in the Arizona Territory.
Belle Archer born Arabella Minlgle 05.09.1858, after a fall at a railway station on 17th September she died two days later on 19.09.1900 aged 42yrs.
Information from England
The unidentified actress is definitely Belle Archer. See the portraits of her in the NYPL Digital Collections. Tom Collins
