PORTRAIT OF AN ADORABLE LITTLE GIRL AND HER HOOP TOY IN VIENNA, AUSTRIA

hoop 2

This vintage photograph features an adorable little girl sitting on a wall and holding her hoop toy. She is wearing a cute dress and is wearing a bow in her long wavy hair. She is also wearing a wonderful smile. The photographer of this image is Marie Gleissner who operated a studio in Vienna, Austria. I was unable to find biographical information about the photographer. It is my assumption that the photographer is a woman (Marie). The photographer did an excellent job posing the little girl and produced a terrific image.

  1. What a cute girl, love the dress, wish it was in my closet. Pose is perfect.

  2. Marie is an old Austrian version of Mary (german Maria)

  3. It is more likely a boy. Props, like the hoop, were commonly used to clarify gender. The bow tie is another hint, as is the facial structure. I have collected these old photos for 30 odd years, and yes, sometimes they are ambiguous. I’d put it at 90% that it is a boy.

    • Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience. I tend to be wrong more than right in these situations. I look at the hair part, the clothing, and the toys;; but still struggle to get it right. Thanks again.
