This vintage real photo postcard features German theater and film actress, Brigitte Horney (1911-1988). She was well known for her role in “Baron Munchhausen (1943) and was considered one of Germany’s great actresses. The IMDb reports that Brigitte has 84 acting credits between 1930 and 1990. She was the daughter of a very famous psychoanalyst, Karen Horney. She moved to the United States after her mothers death to open the Karen Horney Clinic in New York City. Brigitte became a US citizen in 1953. This portrait postcard photo was taken by Hammerer. The logo for Wien Films can be seen on the lower right hand corner of the card. This cabinet card portrait features actress Gipsy Touzeau. She is pretty and she is an obscure performer. Information about her is not easily accessible. It would be interesting to do the research to discover more about her. This photograph of Touzeau was taken by the Ellis & Walery studio (London, England). Alfred Ellis was an active photographer between 1884 and 1899. He was a well regarded photographer who speciatlized in theatrical photography. He took photographs of individual performers, as well as whole scenes with multiple actors and actresses. Between 1890 and 1900, Ellis was joined by Stanislaw Julian Ignacy (aka Count Ostrong). The name “Walery” was adopted for professional purposes by his prominent photographer father. The younger Stanislaw kept the name. (SOLD)
This vintage real photo postcard features American singer, dancer, and comic performer, Fanny Fields (1880-1961), who was a successful performer in British music halls and pantomimes in the early 1900s. During her career she was frequently billed as “Happy” Fanny Fields. She was born, Fanny Furman, in New York City, to a Jewish family. She first appeared in variety shows in NYC sometime around 1899. In her act, she sang and told stories. In 1902, she performed in London and had a very positive reception. One reviewer described her as “one big bubble of mirth and merriment”. She toured with Welsh harpist, Nansi Richards. She also performed “The Suffragette”. In an accompanying monologue, she encouraged woman to make a stand for their rights. In 1912, she performed in front of King George V. She also starred in a silent film short entitled “Happy Fanny Fields and the Four Little Dutchmen” (1913). She retired from the entertainment business in 1913. She returned to the United States and married Dr Abraham Rongy (1878-1949). He was a gynecologist and set up maternity hospitals. In 1933, he published one of the first books proposing the legalization of abortion. Fanny became an active fundraiser for Jewish medical organizations.

She usually occupied a supporting role, rather than a starring one. The IMDb credits Suedo with 43 film appearance between 1923 and 1945. This vintage real photo postcard features German film actress and dancer, Fee (Felicitas) Malten (1911-2005). Malten later emigrated to the United States. She was a leading lady in silent as well as sound films of the Weimar era. Malten was forced to go into exile after the Nazi rise to power in 1933. The compelling reason for her exit was her Jewish background. When she came to the United States, she continued to act. Most of her parts in America, were in Germanic minor roles. In the US, she was known as Fay Wall. The IMDb credits her with 29 film appearances. One of these films was “Hitler-Dead or Alive” (1942). (SOLD)
This vintage real photo postcard features Diana Dors (1931-1984). English film and television and singer. Diana began her film career by being promoted as a “blonde bombshell”. She was marketed as an English version of Marilyn Monroe. She maintained her image by appearing in sex film-comedies and risque modeling. As her career progressed, it was apparent that she actually had talent. She had success as a television actress, singer, cabaret peformer, and frequent talk show guest. She also showed acting prowess in some of her latter films. Upon birth, her name was Diana Fluck. When she began her film career, she was encouraged to change her last name. As she explained, there was concern that if her name was in lights , one of the letters could go out, causing embarassment. At the age of 14, she began studies at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. A year later, she signed a contract with the J. Arthur Rank Organization and began appearing in films. By 1949, Diana was taking on leading roles. In 1956, Dors signed a contract with RKO to act in a movie with George Gobel. In 1958, the studio canceled the contract stating that Dors had become an “object of disgrace” for her off screen behavior. Dors had a problematic social life. This postcard was likely issued sometime between 1956 and 1958. She liked hosting parties and did so regularly. It was important that she made the tabloid headlines to keep her glamorous and sex star reputation. Her first husband exploited her for money and influence. After Dors death, biographers and friends stated that her husband would loan her out sexually to producers and leading actors on condition they put her in their films. She was known to have a number of affairs with the likes of Rod Steiger and other movie people. At one point, she was married to Richard Dawson, the actor/comedian associated with “Hogans Heroes”, “Match Game” and “Family Feud”. She had a total of three marriages. Dors filmography appearing in IMDR states that she had 100 film credits. This postcard was published by International Press in the mid 1950’s. (SOLD)

Her mother was a stage actress and her father was an artillery General. She moved to Paris in 1945 and studied acting. She was “discovered” by director Willy Rozier. In 1949, she received a major role in the film, “L’Epave (The Wreck)”). She also starred in such films as “Forbidden Fruit” (1952), “French Cancan” (1954), and “Testament of Orpheus” (1960). She made her American film debut in “Companions of the Night” (1954). She later acted in television shows. Her IMDb filmography includes 95 credits between 1949 and 2016. This postcard was postmarked in 1960 in Pula, Croatia. SOLD
This vintage real photo postcard features film and television actress, Barbara Darrow (1931-2018). Geography and Genetics must have made it Darrow’s destiny to be an actress. Her father was a motion-picture landscape artist and her mother was a former silent film actress. In addition, she was born in Hollywood and graduated from Hollywood High School. Barbara was a model and that work led to her receiving film contract offers. In 1950, she signed a seven year contract with RKO studios. She made mainly B movies during the 1950’s decade. These movies included “The Monster that Challenged the World” and “Queen of Outer Space”. She also appeared in episodes of popular television shows of the 50’s. In 1956, she married Thomas David Tannenbaum. He was a talent agent at MGM, and later, became the founding president of Viacom. One of her children was married to Bobby Darrin’s son. Barbara’s sister was a model and married tennis great, Pancho Gonzalez. The IMDB credits Barbara with 27 television and movie appearances between 1950 and 1977. Lytton was an English born stage and music hall actress. She was active in the early 1900’s. Lytton was the daughter of a goldsmith/jewelrer. This vintage real photo postcard features actress, singer, and comedienne, Miss Edith Fink. Information about Miss Fink is sparse. The website “Find A Grave” provides a bit of information about her life and death. She was born in Nottingham, England, in 1884. She died in Poole, England in 1957. At the time of her passing, her full name was Edith Kate Fink Lashwood. She had been married to George Lashwood (1863-1942). Their marriage took place in 1917. George Lashwood has been described as a “handsome and distinguished” well-dressed singer of popular and patriotic songs. He also appeared in pantomimes and made recordings of many of his songs. Note the purple typed message on the reverse of this postcard. The writer, Louise, tells the reader that Miss Fink is playing Cinderella at the “Prince of Wales Theatre” in London. A faded postmark reveals that this postcard was written and mailed in 1906. This card was published by E. C. Osborne & Son. The firm was located in Birmingham, England. SOLD
