THE LITTLE BOY AND THE SEA (RUSSIAN VINTAGE PHOTOGRAPH)

This vintage real postcard is unique and adorable. A little boy is at the helm of a miniature sailing ship, not far from shore. Beach goers and large boats can be seen in the background. The toy ship commanded by this child is amazingly realistic down to the tiniest details. A logo below the photo states “Anana Kypopm” (the photographer?) and is dated 1964. The photographer’s logo displays a light house and a sailboat which indicates that the photo studio shooting this photograph was likely located in a beach resort town. The photo measures about 5 1/2″ x 3 1/2″.

BEAUTIFUL MEMORIAL PHOTOGRAPH OF AN ADORABLE CHILD POSING NEXT TO LATE MOTHER’S PORTRAIT

This cabinet card portrait is one of those special photographs that appears to be trying to tell the viewer a story. Here is the story as I see it. An adorable and well dressed young child stands on a chair next to the photo portrait of his/her mother. The child’s mother has died and this cabinet card photograph was taken to serve as a keepsake memorial photo. The child can refer to this photo to preserve the memory of his/her mother. This image was beautifully photographed. The pose and the props, as well as the clarity of the image, help make this an exceptional photograph. The talented photographer of this cabinet card is the Bates & Nye Studio in Denver, Colorado. Photographer W. L. Bates appears in the 1881 Denver city directory under the occupation of photographer.  A Colorado genealogical site contends that Bates worked as a photographer in Denver between 1880 and 1890. Preliminary research yielded no information about the second partner in the gallery (Nye).   (SOLD)

“THATS ENTERTAINMENT”: A PRECIOUS LITTLE GIRL AND HER ACCORDION

This vintage photo postcard captures a most adorable wide-eyed little girl sitting on a wooden chair and holding an accordion. The girl’s expression is precious. She seems happy to be posing for this photograph. She is sitting in front of a collection of her toys including a nutcracker man, a dog on wheels, and a doll. The accordion has the logo of the Cucciolo company. This company operated in Italy and this postcard is likely of Italian origin and produced in the 1930’s. Printing on the reverse of the postcard indicates that the postcard was published on Agfa postcard paper. Founded in 1867, “Actien-Gesellschaft fur Anilin-Farrikation” (AGFA) produced chemical liquids for photography. In 1913, the company becgan to produce postcard papers. The company’s primary factory was located in Berlin, Germany.   (SOLD)

YOUNG MOM READS HER CHILD A BOOK IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

This vintage photograph features a young mother reading a book to her child. The youngster is sitting on her lap and holding the book. A second book lies on the chair, in reserve, behind the mother.  The photograph was taken by the Koehne & Bretzman studio in Chicago, Illinois. William L. Koehne  (1869-1965) was a prominent portrait photographer in the windy city. One source reports that he was a photographer for the Chicago Tribune. Charles F. Bretzman was born in Germany in 1866 and emigrated to the United States at age 19. He settled in New York and found a photo studio job. He came to Chicago in 1894 and worked there six years until he moved to Indianapolis where he opened his own studio and worked as a staff photographer for three newspapers. Bretzman appears in the Indianapolis, Indiana city directory as a photographer in 1902. In 1911 he was at the first Indianapolis 500 auto race shooting the action. He was the first official photographer for the Indy.  The Indiana Historical Society displays some of his racing photographs online. His son, Charles Noble Bretzman joined him in the business in around 1925. Charles Bretzman’s portrait can be seen below.   (SOLD)

PORTRAIT OF AN ADORABLE AND BEAUTIFULLY DRESSED LITTLE BOY IN ISTANBUL, TURKEY

This vintage photograph features an adorable little boy. He is very fashionable and is wearing a terrific Panama hat. His expression is priceless. This photo was taken in Istanbul, Turkey in 1949. I can not identify the language written on the reverse of the photograph. The official language of Turkey is Turkish but there are many other ethnic groups living in the nation. Other prevalent languages include Arabic and Zazaki.  This photograph measures about 5″ x 3 1/14″.      (SOLD)

PORTRAIT OF AN ADORABLE YOUNG BOY BY A PHOTOGRAPHER / MAYOR IN MARION, OHIO

This vintage photograph features an adorable young boy dressed in a sailor styled outfit. He seems to be holding back a smile. The photograph was taken by the Wark studio in Marion, Ohio. James Wark was born in Ireland in 1847. At age 19 he immigrated to the United States and apprenticed for photographer George W Manly (Akron, Ohio). He then worked as a photographer in Kent, Ohio (1871-1891).He is known to have moved to Marion about 1895 and was an active photographer until about 1901. Wark was a busy man in Kent. In the mid 1880’s he he served three terms as Franklin Township’s clerk. He served as mayor of the town between 1886 and 1887. As mayor, Wark had complicated and controversial issues to manage. These controversies included the construction of a municipal waterworks and a resolution to ban saloon traffic in Kent. He relocated to Marion in the Mid 1890’s.  He was a popular resident there and picked up the nickname of “Daddy” Wark. He photographed four generations of clients over his more than sixty year career. He closed his studio in 1933 at 86 years of age. He died in 1934. This photograph measures about 5 1/4″ x 7 3/4″.

TWO ADORABLE AND PHOTOGENIC YOUNG CHILDREN IN CINCINNATI, OHIO

This vintage photograph features two very adorable young siblings (sisters?) posing for their photograph at the Young & Carl studio in Cincinnati, Ohio. Both children are extremely photogenic. Young & Carl operated their Cincinnati studio between 1895 and 1915. This photograph measures about 5 1/4 ” x 7 1/4″.

PORTRAIT OF THREE AFRICAN AMERICAN BROTHERS (1908-1924)

This vintage real photo postcard features three African American brothers posing for a studio portrait. The children are adorable. All three children are displaying a serious expression. The stamp box on the reverse of the postcard lists “Artura” as the producer of the postcard paper. “Artura”paper was utilized by postcard publishers between 1908 and 1924.

PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG GIRL WITH LONG BLONDE HAIR IN MARLBORO, MASSACHUSETTS

This cabinet card portrait features a young girl with light colored hair. She has two bows in her hair and is wearing a brooch near her collar. She is displaying a serious expression. The photographer of this cabinet card is Charles F Little (1860-?). He operated a studio in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Research reveals that he was a photographer is the Boston area at least between 1890 and 1936. He married his wife, Louisa, in 1889.  (SOLD)

PORTRAIT OF FOUR YOUNG SIBLINGS IN EAST JORDAN, MICHIGAN (1893 BABY CARRIAGE)

This cabinet card portrait captures four siblings posing for their photograph. There are several things of note in this image. First, the little boy is wearing a plaid double breasted suit as well as a bow tie and pocket chief. The boy’s pants are knicker style. The baby in this photograph is sitting in a baby carriage and appears quite attentive. The two oldest children have a hand on the carriage, keeping it securely in place. The photographer of this image is W. Slocum, who operated a studio in East Jordan, Michigan. Printing below the image indicates that this photograph was taken in 1893.   SOLD
