ELIZZA LA PORTA : PRETTY ROMANIAN BORN ACTRESS : APPEARED IN ANTI-ABORTION FILM

This vintage real photo postcard features Romanian born film actress, Elizza La Porta (1902-1997). She appeared in a number of German silent films between 1926 and 1930. The IMDb credits he with 19 film appearances. Some of her films had racy titles. She performed in “The Bordellos of Algiers” (1927), as well as “The Vice of Humanity” (1927). La Porta also appeared in a social commentary type film entitled “The Right of the Unborn” (1929). This silent film dealt with the issue of abortion and took a generally anti-abortion stance. La Porta retired from the film business with the advent of sound film. This vintage postcard was published in 1927 by Ross Verlag (Berlin, Germany). The card is part of a series (no.1694/1). The front of the postcard includes a logo advertising Sokal Films. Harry Sokal (1898-1979) was Romanian born and became a German film producer. He produced 22 films between 1926 and 1977. This portrait of Elizza La Porta was taken when she appeared in Sokal’s film, “The Student of Prague” (1926). This postcard is in very good condition (see scans).

YOUNG GIRL RIDES A STUDIO DONKEY WHILE SMILING MOM PROVIDES SUPPORT

This vintage real photo postcard features a young girl riding a donkey. The child does not seem particularly comfortable. Mom is standing close-by, and she offers a pretty smile for the photographer. I have labeled the beast of burden seen in this photo, a donkey, but I am aware that the animal may be a burro or mule. In addition, I am also cognizant of the fact that the donkey, or whatever it is, may be stuffed. The backdrop reveals that the photograph was taken in a photographer’s studio. I would imagine that most photographers would not be receptive about having a live donkey inside their studio. This photo postcard is of German origin and an inscription on the reverse of the card reveals that the photograph was taken in 1937. This vintage scallop edged postcard is in very good condition (see scans).

THREE ADORABLE LITTLE GIRLS WEARING IDENTICAL DRESSES AND THEIR DOG IN MITTWEIDA, GERMANY

This cabinet card portrait features three young sisters and their small dog. The girls are wearing cute identical dresses. The girls may have been posing for this photograph for awhile and at least two of the siblings seem to have lost their patience. The youngest child, appears to be near tears or actually in tears. The oldest girl is rolling her eyes at the photographer while the middle child appears relatively nonplussed, The dog is wearing dog tags. I had no idea that dogs wore dog tags as early as the turn of the century. The photographer of this image is Richard Brand. He operated a studio in Mittweida, Germany. He was an award winning photographer. The front of the card lists medals he had won in Amsterdam, Dresden, and Weimar. This photograph was taken in either 1901 or shortly thereafter. This cabinet card is in excellent condition (see scans). (SOLD)

PORTRAIT OF A PRETTY YOUNG WOMAN (CARTE DE VISITE)

This carte de visite portrait features a pretty young woman. She is wearing her hair up. Note the collar pin at the bottom of her high collar. I am unsure of who took this photograph. There are two photography studios listed and one of the studios succeeded the other. I believe that this cdv photo was taken by Ad. Baumann and that Baumann’s studio took over the business from Prof. Hanfstaengl. Franz Hanfstaengl (1804-1877) was a lithographer, photographer, printer, and publisher. The photographer of this carte de visite had studios in both Frankfurt and Munich, Germany. This cdv photograph is in very good condition (see scans).

Printing on the reverse of the photograph advertises that the photographer had won photography awards in Freiburg (1897) and Rouen (1899). PRETTY YOUNG WOMAN WEARING A FEATHERED HAT AND CORSAGE IN BERLIN, GERMANY

This vintage real photo postcard features a portrait of a pretty young woman. She is wearing a corsage, a feathered hat, and a necklace and earrings. She shows much poise in front of the camera. Either she has much experience being photographed, or the photographer excels at setting up poses. This photograph was taken at the Wertheim studio located on Leipziger Street in Berlin, Germany. It is possible that the name Wertheim actually represents a photo studio in a department store. Wertheim was a large German department store chain which had four stores in Berlin. The chain’s most famous store, Leipziger Platz, was constructed in 1896. The store featured 83 elevators and an atrium with a glass roof. SOLD
