This vintage photograph features an attractive Jewish family in 1930’s Russia. The previous owner of this photo reports that this is the Robert Edelstein family. The parents in this image are well dressed and their son is wearing a sailor style outfit. The photograph measures about  3 1/4″ x 2 1/2″ and is in fair condition.

PORTRAIT OF A FRENCH SAILOR AND HIS BATTLESHIP (THE DESTROYER COGNEE) c1909

This fantastic cabinet card photograph is truly unusual. An oval photo of a handsome young uniformed sailor is in the center of the image. Below his portrait is a photograph of two navy battleships. The name of the sailors ship is embroidered into his cap. The sailor was on the French navy torpedo destroyer, the Cognee. The ship was one of 13 Claymore-class destroyers built around 1905. The photographer of this image is Alphonse Leenaerts and his studio was located in Toulon, France. Toulon is a port city on southern France’s Mediterranean coast. The city serves as a major naval base. Alphonse’s brother Henri, was also a photographer. The pair, who were Belgian, operated in Toulon between 1871 and 1914. They worked independently. Alphonse moved to the address listed on this photograph in about 1903. The reverse of this photo has advertising indicating that Alphonse won a medal for his work in 1909. This photo was taken shortly after that date.  This cabinet card photograph is in very good condition (see scans).

PORTRAIT OF A HANDSOME SAILOR AND HIS BRIDE IN SENS, FRANCE

sailor couple 1 This vintage real photo postcard features a handsome wedding couple. The groom is wearing his naval uniform. His hat tells us the name of his ship. Unfortunately, the camera angle only shows the beginning letters of the ship’s name. One possibility is that the ship is named HMS Constance. The Constance was a light cruiser of the Royal Navy that was active in World War I. The ship was launched in 1915. It took part in the Battle of Jutland in 1916. The Constance was decommissioned in 1931 and was in reserve until 1935. The bride in this photo is wearing a pretty dress and a long veil. The photographer of this wedding portrait is Henri Pissot and his studio was located in Sens, France. Sens is a city in the Yonne department in north-central France. The studio was located in Aalborg, Denmark. Aalborg is the fourth to largest city in Denmark. This cdv is in very good condition (see scans).

PORTRAIT OF YOUNG AND ADORABLE SIBLING SAILORS IN MONROE, MICHIGAN

The two boys featured in this vintage photograph are absolutely adorable. They appear to be siblings, perhaps even twins. The boys are wearing sailor outfits. Note the insignia on the sleeve of one of the boys. This photo was taken at the Beck  studio in Monroe, Michigan. THE HAPPIEST BOY IN PORTLAND, MAINE

The little boy featured in this carte de visite may be the happiest child in Portland, Maine. He has the most wonderful smile and even his eyes sparkle with joy. He is wearing a sailor suit, which was a popular style during the cdv and cabinet card era. This photograph was taken at the J. H. Lamson gallery in Portland, Maine. The Cabinet Card Gallery has other photographs by Mr. Lamson and they can be seen by clicking on the category “Photographer: Lamson”. Joseph Harrison Lamson (1840-1901) operated a studio in Portland, Maine. His father was a maker of daguerrotypes and his mother was an artist. He began his career in photography in Bangor, Maine and then worked in Cuba, the West Indies, and South America. He made a fortune and then bought a studio in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He then moved to Maine and and began his photographic studio in Portland. He photographed the poets Longfellow and Whittier. When he died, his two sons took over the studio.

PORTRAIT OF AN ADORABLE YOUNG BOY BY A PHOTOGRAPHER / MAYOR IN MARION, OHIO

This vintage photograph features an adorable young boy dressed in a sailor styled outfit. He seems to be holding back a smile. The photograph was taken by the Wark studio in Marion, Ohio. James Wark was born in Ireland in 1847. At age 19 he immigrated to the United States and apprenticed for photographer George W Manly (Akron, Ohio). He then worked as a photographer in Kent, Ohio (1871-1891).He is known to have moved to Marion about 1895 and was an active photographer until about 1901. Wark was a busy man in Kent. In the mid 1880’s he he served three terms as Franklin Township’s clerk. He served as mayor of the town between 1886 and 1887. As mayor, Wark had complicated and controversial issues to manage. These controversies included the construction of a municipal waterworks and a resolution to ban saloon traffic in Kent. He relocated to Marion in the Mid 1890’s.  He was a popular resident there and picked up the nickname of “Daddy” Wark. He photographed four generations of clients over his more than sixty year career. He closed his studio in 1933 at 86 years of age. He died in 1934. This photograph measures about 5 1/4″ x 7 3/4″.

This real photo postcard features an adorable brother and sister. The siblings are holding hands as they pose for this studio photograph. The boy looks handsome in his sailor outfit and the little girl appears precious as she holds her doll against her body. This postcard is of French origin and dates back to the 1920’s.   (SOLD)

A PHOTOGENIC FAMILY POSES FOR THEIR PORTRAIT (1917 REAL PHOTO POSTCARD)

This vintage real photo postcard captures a very photogenic family posing at a photographic studio in 1918. The photographer must have loved photographing this crew. The mother is quite pretty and she stares at the camera with icy but engaging eyes. The oldest of the siblings is wearing nautical clothing and is posed in a manner in which he seems to be protective of his family. By the way, where is dad? Mom is wearing a wedding band but father is missing from the photograph. The younger two children are adorable and definitely are sticking close to mom. This family could be doing commercials on television if there was such a thing in 1918. This scalloped edged postcard is unmailed.

HANDSOME SAILOR POSES FOR HIS PORTRAIT IN ENGLAND (VINTAGE POSTCARD)

This item is a vintage real photo postcard featuring a portrait of a handsome young sailor. He looks quite dashing in his naval uniform. The young man was photographed by the J. S. Bullen studio which had two locations in England. The studio had branches in Grimsby and Louth. Bullen operated his studio in the 1910′s and 1920′s. He also may have worked as a  photographer in other decades.   SOLD
