ARTHUR BOUCHER : RUGBY STAR : PHOTO BY NAPOLEON SARONY : (CABINET CARD)

This cabinet card photograph features Rugby star, Arthur Boucher (11870-1948). He certainly looks fit in this portrait by the famous celebrity photographer, Napoleon Sarony. Boucher was a Welsh international rugby union forward and he began playing club rugby for Newport ((1889/90 season). During the next decade, he captained them for three seasons. He was a strong and quick player and he passed well on the run. He was well known for his kicking skills. He kicked several drop goals each season. Boucher was one of the last greal all-round Welsh players before position specialization became the norm. Boucher played for the international Barbarians and became club secretary for the team between 1894 and 1899. Stickers on the reverse of this photograph indicate that the image was once owned by Culver Service. Culver Pictures was a service that collected photographs that for a fee could be used by the media to accompany the stories appearing in their publications. Culver Service was established in 1926. MIGNON : CUTE SWEET YOUNG WOMAN : PICKING FLOWERS : VINTAGE POSTCARD : (1910’s)

This vintage postcard features a pretty young woman picking flowers. She is also carrying a basket of flowers. The caption on the bottom of the card states “Mignon”. The translation of this word is “cute” and “nice”. This postcard has an Italian stamp and was postmarked in Dumenza, Italy. The card dates back to the 1910’s. (S0LD)

PORTRAIT OF A PRETTY YOUNG WOMAN : BY ELMER CHICKERING : BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS

This cabinet card portrait features a welll dressed pretty young woman posing at the Elmer Chickering studio in Boston, Massachusetts. The woman is wearing a ring, earrings and a tight necklace. She has piercing eyes. Elmer Chickering (1857-1915?) was a prestigious Boston photographer who was began his career in the city around 1884.  His obituary states that he photographed many of the leading men and women of the city, state and nation. Chickering was well known his baseball related photographs as well as for his many celebrity portraits. This cabinet card is in fair condition. Note the tiny chip on the mid left border of the image (see scans).

DRINA VERCHESI : BRITISH BEAUTY & ACTRESS : ROTARY PHOTO : RPPC

This vintage real photo postcard features British beauty and actress, Drina Verchesi. This postcard captures Miss Verchesi in, what was meant to be, a “provocative” pose.  Information about Verchesi is not readily available. A deeper dive into theater sources, will uncover some details of her life. It is a safe  bet that she was not a major player on the British stage, but established enough to be featured on this postcard. This card was published by Rotary Photo as part of the “British Beauty” series (no.A1106-2). The firm operated in London, England. This postcard is in good condition (see scans).

LENIN : RUSSIAN SOLDIER : FLAG WITH IMAGE OF VLADIMIR LENIN : VINTAGE PHOTO

This vintage photograph features a photo of a Russian soldier standing in front of a flag that has an image with the likeness of Vladimir Lenin (1870-1924). Lenin was the founder of the Russian Communist Party and the leader of the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917. He was also the first head of the Soviet Union (1917-1924). His supporters viewed him as a defender of the working class from the wealthy and aristocraciy. His critics decried his totalitarian dictatorship and the mass killing and political repression that occurred under his stewardship. The unconfirmed translation of the words on this flag are”Glory to the Soviet Army”.This image is from circa the 1970’s. This photograph measures about 3.75″ x 5″ and is in good condition (see scans).

YOUNG WOMAN WEARING BUCKSKIN COAT : TASSELS : UNIQUE HAT : RPPC : (1918-1936)

This vintage real photo postcard features a fashionable young woman sitting on a small table. She is either wearing a costume, or she dresses in a unique style. Her tasselled buckskin coat is most remarkable. Note the pattern on her pants. Also noteworthy is her hat. It too, has tassels. The woman was photographed by an unidentified photography studio in an unidentified location. The card was published by K. Ltd. sometime between 1918 and 1936). A previous owner trimmed the card to fit it in a frame. The postcard measures 4 7/8″ x 3″ and is in overall good condition (see scans).

AN ADORABLE LITTLE GIRL IN PARIS FRANCE : FASHIONISTA IN TRAINING

This carte de visite portrait features a most adorable little girl. Someone, likely her mother, has dressed her beautifully. She is standing on a chair without any assistance. SALLIE HINTON : STAGE ACTRESS : PERRTZ STUDIO : YORK, PENNSYLVANIA

This cabinet card features Miss Sallie Hinton who was presumably a stage actress, singer or dancer. Research yielded little information about Miss Hinton. The book “Music and Drama” (1882) announces Miss Hinton’s appearance in the “Female Detective” at a Philadelphia theater. The photographer of this image was Perrtz of York, Pennsylvania. This theatrical cabinet card portrait has two pencil marks (one is very light) in it’s lower border beneath the image. The photograph is in overall good condition (see scans)

ADORABLE LITTLE BOY POSES FOR HIS PORTRAIT IN SYRACUSE, NEW YORK (VINTAGE RPPC)

This vintage real photo postcard features a well dressed adorable little boy posing for his portrait at the Hunter, Tuppen Company Studio in Syracuse, New York. The boy is well groomed and wearing a striped shirt and a bow. The lad is identified on the reverse of the postcard and the inscription states that he was five years old at the time of this photograph. The postcard was manufactured by AZO between 1904 and 1918. The postcard is in good condition (note the crease on the bottom left hand corner of the card). (SOLD)
