FULL LENGTH PORTRAIT OF A HUNTER AND HIS RIFLE : OUTDOORSMAN : RPPC

This vintage real photo postcard features a full length portrait of a hunter. He is well dressed for his mission. Note his comfy looking sweater and his wonderfully worn hat. The AZO stamp box on this postcard indicates that it was published sometime between 1904 and 1918. The postcard is in very good condition (see scans).

AMBIVALENT FOX HUNTER AND HIS PET FOX IN KENDALLVILLE, INDIANA

This cabinet card features a fox hunter, posing in his hunting clothing, and his double barreled shotgun. He is also posing with his pet fox and his bounty from his hunt, a dead fox. He is holding the pet fox by a chain. This is a very ambivalent hunter. On one hand, he hunts and kills foxes, and on the other, he keeps a fox as a pet. The hunter appears to have been a very conflicted young man. The photographer of this cabinet card is Frank D. Sullivan of Kendallville, Indiana. The Bulletin of Photography (1922) announced the purchase of Sullivan’s studio to A. D. Conkle, “formerly of Kenton, Ohio. The journal also reported that Sullivan and his wife had moved to Portland Oregon.

HUNTER, SHOTGUN, AND DOG MEET RACCOON: RACCOON MEETS ITS MAKER

This cabinet card is a hunting image photographed by Morrison (1848-?) of Bowling Green, Ohio. The hunter is posed with his hunting dog and his shotgun. Also making an appearance in this image is the raccoon that met its early demise as the prey of the hunt.  The dog in the photograph appears to be a hound. The street address of the photographers studio was the Kabig Block. Robert Prescott Morrison worked as a photographer in Fostoria, Ohio around 1865 and began operating in Bowling Green in 1870 or 1878 depending on what source is believed. He was still active in his career in 1900.  His wife, Belinda (Linnie) Ball Morrison worked as a negative retoucher during their early married days. Morrison was a veteran of the civil war. He served in Company H of the 133rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

HUNTER/TRAPPER DRESSED IN WINTER GEAR (NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA)

This photograph features a hunter/trapper who is well armed for his expedition. He has a rifle and is wearing a knife on his belt. He is wearing winter gear which includes a jacket, cap, and snow shoes. This image was found in Nova Scotia, Canada. It is likely that the pictured outdoorsman is French, and that the studio was located in Nova Scotia.

A HUNTER AND HIS GUN AND HIS DOG IN INDIA

This cabinet card features a hunter and his gun and his dog. The young man is dressed for he hunt with his high boots and his wide brim hat. His dog is lying down and looks to be awaiting his master’s command. The photographer is John Blees, who is the author of the book, “Photography in Hindustan: or Reminiscences of a Traveling Photographer (Bombay, 1877).
