These vintage photo postcards feature Italian silent film actress, Francesca Bertini (1892-1985). She is thought to be one of the leading silent film stars in the history of this movie form. Bertini was internationally acclaimed. She began her stage career at age seventeen and soon was performing on Italy’s silent screen. By 1915, she had made more than fifty films. She was thought to be beautiful, elegant, and charming. Hollywood’s Fox Film offered her a contract but she turned down the opportunity. She was married to Paul Cartier, a wealthiy Swiss banker, and wanted to move with him to Switzerland.

Postcard 1 measures about 3 3/8″ x 5 1/2″ and is in very good condition (see scans).

PRETTY YOUNG WOMAN IN RIVA, ITALY

 

A pretty young woman poses for her cabinet card portrait at the studio of Augusto Baroni in Riva, Italy. The town of Riva is located in northern Italy in the province of Trentino. The town is formally known as Riva del Garda. The subject of this photograph is wearing a heavy chain necklace with a locket. She is wearing a beautiful dress. Her very thin waist is likely the result of a corset. This cabinet card photograph is in very good condition (see scans).

This vintage real photo postcard features a fashionable teenage girl posing for her photographic portrait at A. Cara’s studio in Fassano, Italy. The girl is resting an open book on the back of a chair. She is identified as Lina Carasso. Her portrait was taken in July, 1920. This real photo postcard is in very good condition (see scans). CARTE de VISITE PORTRAIT OF AN ADORABLE LITTLE BOY AND HIS ADORABLE LITTLE DOG IN NAPLES, ITALY

This carte de visite portrait features a very cute little boy and his cute little dog. The child has his arm affectionately wrapped around the dog. Both the boy and his dog are sitting on a bench. The child is very well dressed. He is wearing a terrific cap. Advertising on the reverse of the cdv indicates that the photograph was taken at the Arena studio in Napoli (Naples), Italy. This photo is in excellent condition (see scans).   SOLD

GISELLA POZZI: BEAUTIFUL SILENT FILM ACTRESS WEARING A BUTTERFLY DRESS

One thing is for certain is that Gisella Pozzi is a very pretty woman. However, my knowledge about the details of her life is very uncertain. Preliminary research indicates that she was an Italian silent film actress. Some sources report that she was also a theater actress. I have just written everything I know about Gisella Pozzi. More research is needed. What do you think of her dress and hat? I think she looks terrific. I especially like the butterfly on front of her dress. This vintage real photo postcard was made in Italy and produced by Fotocelere. Fotocelere was active between 1915 and 1942 and published postcards across a wide range of genres. The company must have decided it would be attractive to include her faux autograph across her image. I respectfully disagree.

ITALIAN CABINET CARD FEATURING A MOTHER AND HER YOUNG DAUGHTER

This cabinet card portrait is an immigrant to the Cabinet Card Gallery from somewhere in Italy. The image features a young mother with her arm affectionately around the shoulders of her adorable daughter. Mom is holding a fan and the daughter is holding a small purse. Both the mother and daughter share intense expressions though the daughter is also displaying a wide-eyed questioning look at the photographer. Neither the subjects in this image or the photographer are identified on this well posed cabinet card.

Father and mother are seen posing with their four daughters and one son. Dad appears to be holding a cigar and the family is flanked by a flowering plant on one side and a rocking horse on the other side (next to the boy).
